We are a 16 bedded, acute female mental health ward, for patients over the age of 65.

Situated on the Birch Hill Hospital site, (a Pennine Care NHS Foundation site, which offers free parking for staff). The ward is covered by 2 Consultants, and is supported by other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team - Occupational Therapist, Pharmacist, Advocacy etc. The ward has close links with other Rochdale Older Persons Mental Health Services which are based on site - The MERIT team (Community Mental Health Team), The Home Intensive Treatment Service, The Care Home Liaison Team and the Memory Clinic.

To plan an activity programme for the patients on the ward.

To deliver planned group activities with patients.

Undertake planned individual work with work with patients, with support from the Occupational Therapist.

To plan and deliver an activity programme for the patients on the ward.

To work closely with ward and therapy staff to develop partnerships to deliver appropriate activities

To undertake therapeutic activity that is age appropriate, promotes inclusion, is valued and focuses on meaningful activity

To build therapeutic relationships with patients, relatives and carers to encourage their interest and participation in activities suited to their particular needs and interests

To observe, monitor and record patient activity and health status as appropriate, communicating appropriately any change in condition to nursing staff

To maintain up-to-date and accurate records of all interventions

To complete appropriate risk assessments for group and individual work on the ward, on the unit and in the community, for example, trips out from the ward

To be able to work autonomously to undertake specific individual and group sessions as agreed with the ward manager.
