Swindon, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

We’re offering a fantastic opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellows to join an interdisciplinary team (initially 2-year fixed-term FTE) to help deliver the National Trust’s research ambitions under our ‘Looking After’ research theme.

We have a strong track record of undertaking and leading collaborative research and became an Independent Research Organisation in 2019. We’re seeking highly capable, creative, organised and collaborative individuals, with research experience and knowledge to help us to take our research to the next level.

You’ll play a key role in building research capacity and capability in support of our Strategic Research Framework. This includes delivering research excellence by enabling partnerships, supporting the development of National Trust researchers and by embedding new knowledge to help ensure our conservation activity on the ground is cutting edge and evidence based.

What it's like to work here:We’re bigger than you think, we’re more complicated than we appear and we’re larger scale than you’d imagine.

We’ve got passionate people in all our teams and we’re for ever, for everyone and we really mean that.

We know there are issues that we must face into, including tackling the climate and nature crises, and that we will need the right combination of passion and knowledge to address novel conservation challenges.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon, however there will be an opportunity to explore and agree hybrid working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust. The role will involve travel to meet with stakeholders and to carry out work.

What you'll be doing:‘Looking After Research Coordinator’

You’ll work across our ‘Looking After’ research to build capability and capacity in associated professions (from Archaeologists and Conservators to Curators and Building Surveyors), with a focus on enabling more of our staff to successfully engage with research activity and UKRI funding proposals.

You will play a key role in supporting our strategic research partnership with University College London - supporting partnership events; promoting and disseminating partnership activities; brokering and building relationships between NT and UCL researchers; supporting the development of research proposals; and monitoring and reviewing progress against partnership objectives.

Who we're looking forFor these positions we’re seeking experienced researchers capable of operating across the varied research landscape.

We recommend you view the full role profile document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed; this just provides a full picture of what is possible in this role. We’d love you to have:

- Specialist knowledge in a related discipline and ability to develop research initiatives
- A record of research output in high quality publications
- Experience managing research projects
- The ability to inspire and influence others, from public speaking to working with senior stakeholders at partner organisations
- Ability to work as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary matrix organisation, negotiating, building trust and delivering a quality service through collaboration
- Confidence in communicating - verbally, in writing, and in presentations - and able to adapt your style to suit a wide range of different audiences

The packageThe National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
- Substantial pension scheme of up to 10% basic salary
- Free entry to National Trust places for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
- Tax free childcare scheme
- Rental deposit loan scheme
- Season ticket loan
- Perks at work discounts i.e. gym memberships, shopping discount codes, cinema discounts
- Flexible working whenever possible
- Employee assistance programme
