Swindon, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

We're offering a fantastic opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (initially 2-year fixed-term FTE) to join an interdisciplinary team to help deliver the National Trust’s research ambitions under our ‘Land & Nature’ research theme.

We’ve got a strong track record of undertaking and leading collaborative research and became an Independent Research Organisation in 2019. We’re seeking highly capable, creative, organised and collaborative individuals, with research experience and knowledge to help us to take our research to the next level.

You’ll play a key role in building research capacity and capability in support of our Strategic Research Framework. This includes delivering research excellence by enabling partnerships, supporting the development of National Trust researchers and by embedding new knowledge to help ensure our conservation activity on the ground is cutting edge and evidence based.

What it's like to work here:We’re bigger than you think, we’re more complicated than we appear and we’re larger scale than you’d imagine. We’ve got passionate people in all our teams, and we’ve got so much more we want to achieve. We’re for ever, for everyone and we really mean that. We know there are issues that we must face into, including tackling the climate and nature crises, and that we will need the right combination of passion and knowledge to address novel conservation challenges.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon, however there will be an opportunity to explore and agree hybrid working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust. The role will involve travel to meet with stakeholders and to carry out work.

What you'll be doing:‘Natural Environment Research Coordinator’

Reporting to Professor Matt Heard you’ll work within the Environmental Research and Data team to increase the research capacity and capability across our Land & Nature teams. Your work will help support the development of untapped potential across the Trust, including the development of research projects for UKRI funding and helping to shape the environmental research agenda.

Who we're looking forWe recommend you view the full role profile document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed; this just provides a full picture of what is possible in this role. We’re seeking experienced researchers capable of operating across the varied research landscape.
- Specialist knowledge in a related discipline and ability to develop research initiatives
- A record of research output in high quality publications
- Experience managing research projects
- The ability to inspire and influence others, from public speaking to working with senior stakeholders at partner organisations
- Able to work as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary matrix organisation, negotiating, building trust and delivering a quality service through collaboration
- Confidence in communicating - verbally, in writing, and in presentations - and able to adapt your style to suit a wide range of different audiences

The packageThe National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
- Substantial pension scheme of up to 10% basic salary
- Free entry to National Trust places for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
