Newport is a vibrant, forward-thinking city steeped in a rich industrial heritage that recently has proved it can re-establish and adapt itself as a centre of modern industry and commerce.
Infrastructure covers a wide range of services including highways, drainage, home to school transport, fleet management and civil contingencies. In addition to this the service area develops and delivers Active Travel projects and is working with external agencies on the implementation of the South East Wales Transport (Burns) Commission recommendations which also include Active Travel aspects.
A new team has been created to deliver on all Active Travel priorities whilst also supporting the work of the Burns Commission. This is an exciting time to join the recently restructured Infrastructure and join the Sustainable Travel Team.
**About the job**
The exciting challenges of this role include the delivery of active travel initiatives across Newport, as part of a range of walking and cycling projects to shift a significant proportion of short local car trips to cycling and walking. The post holder is responsible for all aspects of obtaining and managing the grant funding, communication, data gathering, analysis, preparation, development and consultation associated with the delivery of duties under the Active Travel Act.
The post holder is repsonsible for delivery of Statutory and non Statutory duties related to Active Travel and to make an active contribution to transportation and green infrastructure within Newport through the improvement of the public access network and promotion of sustainable modes of travel.
You will report directly to the Team Manager and will work closely with other managers / team leaders across the authority and a range of contractors and other stakeholders to deliver and develop an excellent range of services for residents and businesses across the City.
**About the person**
Enthusiastic and confident, you should have a higher education qualification. You should have experience managing contracts and have proven success in delivering service improvements.
You should be open-minded, with an organised and analytical approach to your work - and should be used to maintaining attention to detail while working to tight deadlines. You are self-motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and appreciate the importance of customer care. You have strong financial management skills and a creative approach to problem solving with excellent IT and data analysis/management skills.
