**Job Summary**
The National Health Service Blood and Transplant Tissue Services are an integral part of the NHS. Our Tissue Donation Programme saves and radically improves hundreds of lives every year.
You will have NVQ level 3 in Care or Science or 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above including English and Maths (or equivalent). You will also need to be able to retrieve multiple tissues from newly deceased donors. You must have good IT and organisational skills as you will have considerable administrative duties. A valid driving license is essential.
If you are able to work evenings and weekends within a 7 day scheduled rota, we’d like to hear from you.
We anticipate training to the Senior Tissue Donation Assistant role to take 6-12 months.

**Main duties of the job**
- You will support the work of the Retrieval team, performing a range of routine tasks which relate to the donation, transport and follow up of deceased donors. This will include performing deceased tissue retrieval (e.g. eyes, bone, skin and heart) under direct supervision.
- Following successful probation and training in the Senior Retrieval Assistant role you will be competent to facilitate eye retrieval without supervision.
- You will be competent to facilitate the retrieval of eyes from deceased donors without supervision at non-NHSBT locations after training and assessment.
- You will be required to support the work of the Surgical Living Donation Programme to include occasional bone collections at site and process paperwork in relation to the programme.
- You will work flexibly across the range of activities as rostered.
- You will be required to work weekends and evenings with notice.
**About You**
**Experience and Knowledge**
- Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
**Qualifications and Training**
- Educated to HND level, NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Health Care Science or relevant science field and/or equivalent knowledge of science or health care work, acquired through formal training and experience
- Possess a valid driving licence, allowing you to drive in the UK
