Job Introduction
The BBC’s international news services command a level of respect, reach and trust that is unmatched around the world, attracting a global weekly audience of 458 million people. BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, delivering services in 42 different languages across radio, TV, online and on mobile.

This Publicist will play a lead role in promoting our language services around the world and protecting the BBC World Service.

This role sits within the BBC World Service communications team and primarily looks after the publicity for BBC Africa and its 12 different language services across the continent including English.

Main Responsibilities

The team is made up of three publicists and one team assistant who report to the Head of Communications for BBC World Service and the Senior Head of Comms for News. The team is part of the international news communications group which also includes the communications teams for BBC News in the UK.

**Role Responsibility**
- Manage international and domestic publicity for BBC Africa’s award-winning Africa Eye investigations
- Work with the World Service’s editorial and marketing teams on a range on content from podcasts, to TV and radio documentaries and digital programming
- Liaise with senior stakeholders and handle any potential reputational issues
- Collaborate on pan-World Service initiatives and projects with other publicists e.g BBC 100 Women
- Occasionally the role will travel internationally to manage publicity on the ground for high profile launches and/or events as well as meeting key stakeholders and media.
- This role requires occasionally working across different time zones and being part of a rota to work on call over some weekends so you need to be prepared to work flexibly when required.

Are you interested in news and current affairs? Savvy about social media? Able to keep a cool head under pressure?

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a clear interest in international news and current affairs with a track record of creating and delivering successful publicity campaigns.

Your experience should ideally include crafting press releases, pitching feature ideas, working with external journalists, creating social media content, as well as understanding how to write appropriately for different audiences.

Ideally you will have a good understanding of social media and digital communications as well as experience of coming up with ideas for creating digital content and be able to demonstrate your creative streak. Being able to create and edit videos is not essential but definitely a bonus.

You will be working alongside BBC World Service executives, journalists and presenters so you will need to have some experience of stakeholder management and be comfortable briefing people on relevant communication issues. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate experience in managing reputational issues and working to find solutions
