The Patient Administration Services Team, based at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, has an opportunity for a 30 hours Patient Admin Services Ward Clerk.
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are looking for a different challenge and are keen to develop new skills whilst working within multi-skilled teams. The successful applicant will be provided with training and support by the senior ward clerk team, team leader and Manager.
The post holder will support on a day to day basis the Ward Clerk function at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. To maintain real-time data management and quality for all ward activity. To ensure basic clerical needs of the wards are met on a daily basis.
The role of the ward clerk will be key in the transition of physical notes to electronic notes.
A flexible working approach is essential as the Patient Admin Services Team provides 24/7 services. Applicants must therefore be flexible to cover shifts and bank holidays, including Christmas Day.
You must enjoy working within multi-disciplinary teams, committed to working in a team driven environment and have the ability to relate to children, parents and members of the public, with an enthusiastic and conscientious approach, complemented by excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Using iPM Lorenzo record and amend bed availability and produce reports
- Using iPM Lorenzo record all admissions, discharges, transfers and associated ward activity in real time thus ensuring the bed compliment / ward activity is up to date at all times and produce relevant reports as and when required.
- To ensure that all relevant consultant and specialty details are collected in iPM (Lorenzo) and are kept up to date in line with any transfers.
- To ensure that all information regarding the patient demographic details are checked at each admission or transfer and updated on Lorenzo, to include
- Ethnicity
- Religion
- Telephone numbers
- NOK
- School
- Validate NHS number and patient demographics using the Spine (PDS)where possible.
- To identify any patients not matching the spine and raise with team leader for further investigation.
- To print patient wristbands, front sheets and labels for all patients admitted to the relevant ward.
- To ensure Casenotes are available for all admissions following an Emergency admission.
- Dispatch and receive casenotes using the iPM document tracking module.
- Dispatch, file and scan documents and records after patient discharge.
- To ensure that patient documents and records are available and maintained to a high standard.
- Following ward discharge ensure all relevant patient records are available for Clinical Coding Team.
- To process any ward attenders and out-patient clinics held on the ward.
