**The Role**

We are looking for someone who will support our Payroll and Benefits Manager with proven payroll management experience. Running two monthly payrolls for our Retail and Manufacturing business areas, totalling c1800 colleagues, supported by 2 Payroll Advisors,using our Mitrefinch HR/Payroll system. (training provided).

Full JD available on request, but key duties will include:

- The development, implementation and effective monitoring of user-friendly Payroll processes and procedures that meets the needs of the business.
- Accountability for the processing of end to end payrolls for Retail & Manufacturing, ensuring legislation is adhered to and that employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner whilst ensuring compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
- Oversee SMP, SSP & SPP processes, approve new starter & leaver calculations provided by the payroll team
- Provide support to the team with payroll advice and complex query resolutions and liaise with department managers on payroll related issues
- Auditing all changes of employee details, through the HR system and the payroll team, ensuring all changes meet internal controls.
- Reviewing and introduce, where required, service levels and processes to ensure a high standard of customer service and mínimal error rate.
- Producing reports and management information, analysing and investigating discrepancies.
- Processing monthly pension returns and tax year end accurately and to deadlines
- Ensuring the payroll query inbox is monitored and responded to within SLA's and that the team understand how to respond to any technical queries.
- Take accountability for reviewing data held in the HR system to ensure accurate data transfer to the payroll system and relevant employee reports.
- Lead, provide guidance to develop and motivate the payroll team
- Complete any ad-hoc project work or other reasonable tasks as necessary to support department or wider business objectives.

**The Skills**

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager with the following skills, experience and attributes to be successful in this role:

- Proven experience as a Payroll Manager (essential), responsible for end to end payroll processing and managing and developing a team.
- CIPP qualified or equivalent is preferred but not essential if experience is evident
- Strong IT proficiency in Microsoft packages and HR/payroll systems and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Excellent communicator using a confident and pragmatic approach to provide advice, guidance and support to colleagues.
- Commercially focused with a structured approach and well developed organisational ability, time management and ability to prioritise your workload effectively
- Problem solver with strong analytical skills and high levels of accuracy, attention to detail and tenacity to resolve issues
- High degree of integrity, able to work with sensitive data and maintain confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to adapt manner to deal with employees at all levels including senior management up to board level.
- Self motivated with a positive outlook and high levels of energy and enthusiasm
