The role of the CDU Junior Sister/Senior Staff Nurse, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safe and effective care of patients admitted to the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU). This dynamic role presents an opportunity to make a significant impact on patient care and the overall function of the unit.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Facilitate the smooth flow of patients through the department, whether directing them to specialty teams or overseeing their discharge.
- Uphold the highest standards of patient care, taking responsibility for the quality and effectiveness of treatments and interventions.
- Provide leadership and support to the nursing team, fostering a compassionate and collaborative work environment.
- Work collaboratively with the ED team to optimise patient flow, improve efficiency and coordination.
On a day-to-day basis the Junior Sister/Senior staff Nurse is responsible for the flow of patients through the department either to speciality teams or to discharge.
JOB SUMMARY
- To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both the patients and their relatives within the King's College Hospital.
- To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse/ Head of Department.
- To assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of nurses within the ward complement.
- To act as a clinical resource within the ward and across the Care Group as necessary.
- To support the Ward manager in improvement projects and quality assurance in the department.
- To work as a leader and support the nursing team in delivering emergency care within a specialist area.
- To act as a positive role model to junior staff members. Particular emphasis is put at Kings on the need to ensure that all staff recognise their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient focused manner and to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

- To work as a Ward Leader within CDU and support quality and safety within this area.
- To provide emergency care of a high standard to emergency, critically ill or injured patients, or primary care patients and their relatives within King's College Hospital.
- Liaise directly with the ED Senior Nursing team to support flow within the department
- To lead and develop an identified group of nurses within the Emergency Department.
- To act as a clinical resource within the department and across the care group as necessary.
- To act as a positive role model to junior staff members.
- The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well-being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.
- To observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
- To observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.
