We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered clinician to join the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire digital team as a Clinical Safety Officer (CSO).

As a CSO you will have a vital role in ensuring digital transformation is undertaken as safely and effectively as possible. To succeed in this role you will have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, in order to promote the role of clinical safety across cross-functional teams. You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary digital clinical team and be supported by the Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) for UHNNHS.

The post holder is required to be a suitably qualified and experienced healthcare professional who holds and maintains current registration with an appropriate professional body relevant to their training and experience. Experience of working within a clinical safety role in an acute healthcare setting and knowledge of healthcare information technology systems is essential.

Travel between hospital sites will be required.

The Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) will work as part of a dynamic Chief Clinical Information Officer team. The post holder will have an extensive understanding of clinical safety and will be responsible for efficient and effective management of the Digital Clinical Safety on behalf of the Group.

The role is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, support, specialist knowledge and clinical safety review and approval for the implementation of new digital solutions and upgrades existing digital solutions across the Group. This includes the assessment of clinical safety issues at all points in the procurement and implementation of IT software and hardware, including on-going management once transferred to live service and ensuring all digital solutions conform to relevant national standards for clinical safety.

**Key deliverables**:

- To operate as a key member of the Chief Clinical Information Officer team which oversees the effective delivery of all digital clinical services within the directorate and the delivery of all the directorate’s objectives and responsibilities
- Provide clinical safety approval for new agreed deployments of digital solutions and upgrades to existing systems across the Group
- To work with relevant internal and external stakeholders to take responsibility and accountability for digital clinical safety across the Group
- Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical staff in planning and implementing clinical safety standards and policies aligned to the Group Digital Strategy

Digital Clinical Safety and Risk Management
- Provide a service which captures and learns from digital clinical safety incidents and supports the introduction of changes and improvements to clinical systems where necessary
- To improve the safety of digital technologies within the Group
- To identify, and support the promotion and use of, digital technologies as solutions to patient safety challenges
- Ensure that the Group learns from best practice in digital transformation programmes to understand what works well and why in respect to digital clinical safety
- Assist Health Intelligence colleagues to facilitate data triangulation to ensure all sources of safety information contribute to a shared understanding of digital clinical safety issues. Support the development of a plan relating to their resolution
- Providing leadership to the Digital Clinical Safety agenda across the Group, combining clinical expertise with understanding of the human factors associated with digital systems
- Proactive engagement in key areas of work to ensure robust assessment of risk and implementation of effective controls (including working jointly with other governance teams within the Group on identified issues)
