The graduate-entry MBChB programme at Warwick Medical School (WMS) is the largest in the UK, attracting graduates from both science and non-science backgrounds. Its modern medical programme is delivered by a dynamic and forward-thinking team of academics and clinicians.

Early patient exposure is recognised as being critical to the developing professionalism of medical students. Within the Warwick MBChB programme the first face to face student experience of meeting patients takes place in the first year of the course in community settings, facilitated by community-based allied healthcare professionals from 2 local NHS trusts. In year 2 our community provision includes our main palliative care teaching, health needs assessment and interprofessional learning.

**JOB PURPOSE**

To provide effective leadership, co-ordination and quality assurance of Community Learning across the MB ChB programme, by coordinating the design, development, delivery, assessment and evaluation of this course element. The Community Education Co-Lead will work with the community lead to organise, develop and facilitate the community placements for students. This will include co-ordinating the teaching across year 1 and 2, training, observing and supporting small groups of community tutors, providing information, support and teaching for students and liaising with local trusts and 3rd sector providers e.g. local hospices. There will be opportunities to develop and refresh the current provision, encourage patient involvement in learning and make links with new local 3rd sector and community organisations as part of our expanding community network. As Co-lead, the post-holder will have cross-curricular oversight of community teaching including integration with other themes & be involved in curriculum development and assessment of the theme.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Leadership and Management**

1. In conjunction with the community lead, provide academic and strategic leadership to all contributors of Community Learning, including clinical and non-clinical WMS staff, Academic Leads for teaching blocks, NHS staff and others who contribute to the curriculum and assessment of the theme.

2. To identify areas where current provision needs revision and contribute to continuous improvement of community teaching and learning.

3. Ensure learning outcomes are appropriately and proportionally represented within the teaching and assessment of the curriculum.

4. In conjunction with the community lead, liaise with Academic Leads for Themes, Academic Leads for General Practice, and the Academic Leads for teaching blocks to ensure co-ordination and integration of curriculum delivery.

**Teaching and Learning**

1. To share academic ownership for the organization and delivery of community teaching in year 1 and 2.

2. Liaise with NHS trusts, 3rd sector organizations and community groups to ensure adequate placement capacity and teaching space within community settings.

4. Organize training for community tutors and provide teaching observation and development opportunities.

5. Ensure that content, methods of delivery and learning materials will meet the defined learning objectives.

6. Prepare materials to support learning using the VLE (Moodie), course handbooks etc.

7. Receive evaluation feedback from students, analyse and implement improvements.

8. Mark, monitor and quality assure student assessments and reflections by reference to provided criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.

9. Map content to Outcomes for Graduates (2018) and WMS's Learning Outcomes in collaboration with the relevant Academic Leads for each Phase and the Academic Leads for teaching block as appropriate, including curriculum mapping software tools.

10. Blueprint all the relevant learning outcomes against the pool of clinical cases.

11. Ensure all contributors are aware of, understand and work within the open access policy.

12. Monitor the progress of students throughout the theme.

**Assessment**

1. In conjunction with the community lead, engage with the Academic Leads for the blocks and the Academic Leads for the themes to ensure preparation of formative and summative assessment materials in a timely fashion, including examination questions.

2. To engage with examination processes including question writing workshops, standard setting, examining, invigilating, marking and moderation.

3. Provide one-to-one feedback to students on summative assessments.

**Administration and Other Activities**

1. Undertake duties related to course administration, such as attendance records, etc.
