**Job summary**:
An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join our friendly Colorectal Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. This role will support the Clinical Nurse Specialists in providing information and support to cancer patients and their families. It involves triaging calls and escalating concerns to facilitate cancer patients through cancer pathways and treatment programmes. This role is pivotal in taking responsibility for less complex personalised care using an holistic needs assessment and care plan to deliver emotional and practical support. The successful post holder will be responsible for sign posting patients to local support services including health and wellbeing resources.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The role requires a knowledge or willingness to work with hospital systems as well as a multidisciplinary team within the cancer arena. Excellent communication skills are essential in providing support to individuals affected by cancer and their families; this requires a high degree of empathy, diplomacy and honesty. A commitment to further improving services for cancer patients and their families is required. Experience and knowledge of colorectal cancer pathways is desirable but not essential. We are committed to supporting your learning and development using a robust induction and competency framework to guide and support you in gaining the right skills for this role. You will work closely under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Specialists ensuring safe and best practice. A willingness to undertake further/relevant study days is expected. The role requires cross working across University Hospital Birmingham Hospitals.
