**Purpose of role**

Working as an Activities and Wellbeing Co-ordinator as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing a specialist service to Adults with Enduring and Complex Mental Health conditions.

**Key responsibility**

Working as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the post holder will be expected to:

- To work within and promote the ECHO Values.
- Treat patients, service users and colleagues with respect and maintain a professional manner.
- Take responsibility for specified tasks as instructed by the Occupational Therapist including administrative and clerical tasks.
- To facilitate therapy programmes in a group setting, contributing to the co-ordination and implementation of rehabilitation sessions, as instructed by the Occupational Therapist.

**DUTIES AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**
- To attend monthly Line Management/Supervision.
- To contribute to the continued evaluation of patients’ progress as a member of the clinical team.
- To be able to work without direct supervision, but under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, in a variety of settings, e.g. hospital, care home, carrying out delegated treatment plans as instructed.
- To use/develop clinical skills to evaluate patient progress, including the recording of accurate notes in patient file.
- To conduct basic risk assessments and provide appropriate reports.
- To demonstrate confidence in reporting regularly on patient progress and non-clinical incidents.
- To maintain confidentiality according to Echo’s policy and procedures.
- To effectively communicate with patients, service users and colleagues. This may involve using skills to support individuals who have difficulties in communication due to their mental health.
- To use verbal and non-verbal communication skills for motivating patients, clear explanations to gain consent, and encourage service users/patients to undertake therapy programmes.
- To deal sensitively with service users/patients who may display distress, anxiety and aggression.
- To promote understanding of the aims of Rehabilitation to colleagues, relatives and carers and therefore ensure a consistent approach to each individual’s care.
- To provide care and dignity to individuals at all times whilst taking into account the individual needs of the service user/patient.

**Planning and Organisational**
- To demonstrate confidence and ability in planning and prioritising a delegated workload.
- To participate in team meetings.
- To work in accordance with all ECHO Policies and Procedures.
- To maintain, monitor and order stock materials and equipment, under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
- To participate in the employee appraisal scheme and personal development plan.
- To attend monthly Line Management/Clinical Supervision.

**General Responsibilities**
- To pass on knowledge and skills from own work area to new or less experienced members of staff, and family and carers, where appropriate.
- To be responsible for maintaining accurate service user/patient records in line with ECHO policies and procedures.
- To attend appropriate in-service training.

**Clinical and Practice Governance**
- Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regard to any patient/family/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
- Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to ECHO Information Governance policies and procedures.
- The post holder must adhere to ECHO risk assessments and risk management processes.
- The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
- Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by ECHO employees.

**Confidentiality**
- All employees must not, without prior permission, disclose any information regarding patients or staff. In instances where it is known that a member of staff has communicated information to unauthorised persons, those staff will be liable to dismissal. Moreover, the Data Protection Act 1998 also renders an individual liable for prosecution in the event of unauthorised disclosure of information.

**Health & Safety**
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others who may be affected by acts or omissions at work.
- To co-operate with any requirements and adhere to statutory or other safety regulations.
- To be familiar with all fire and similar regulations including evacuation procedures and act in accordance with them in any emergency situation.
- Ensure that all working practices and procedures comply with statutory regulation, codes of practice and safety guidance in force.

**Security**
- To take all possible precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of staff, patients, visitors and the public by implementing all policies and procedures relating to security.
