We are proud to announce two newly developed full time posts for ACP Registered Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists at band 8a.

One post will be based in Bangor, covering the local counties of Gwynedd and Anglesey (the West area of North Wales),and one will be based in either Llandudno or Rhyl, covering Conwy and Denbighshire (Central area of North Wales).

Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is a relatively new modality in North Wales CAMHS (established in 2019) and there is increasing support for psychoanalytic thinking and for the development of the profession, hence the exciting development of these full time posts, alongside the recent development of a new trainee post in East North Wales.

In these posts, you will be contributing to the development of an increasingly valued way of thinking and will be a part of a small but dynamic group of psychotherapists across Wales who are actively involved in the training of other professions and with Health Education and Improvement Wales and Welsh Government in helping to shape the future of mental health support for infants, children and young people.

You will be part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of colleagues; including Psychiatry, Psychology, Family Therapy, Nursing, Social Workers and, Occupational Therapy colleagues and clinical supervision will be provided by the Principal Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.

You will also be joining a service that can demonstrate its commitment to the ongoing training of its clinicians.

Clinical

To provide highly specialist psychoanalytic psychotherapy assessment for children/adolescents with severe, highly complex and persistent mental health problems.

To undertake psychoanalytically informed work with parents/carers of referred infants, children and young people.

Consultation

To provide highly specialist advice, guidance and consultation to professional colleagues working with children and adolescents

Teaching, Training and Supervision

The post holder will provide highly specialist expert training, teaching and supervision to other professionals( including, where appropriate, band 7 child and adolescent psychotherapy and trainee colleagues ) within the CAMHS teams or locality as appropriate, including consultation.

To provide highly specialist teaching and training to other professions working with the client group within the service and within related agencies.

To contribute to the academic and clinical teaching programmes within the service as appropriate.

To provide an efficient, effective, comprehensive and highly specialist child and adolescent psychoanalytical psychotherapy assessment and treatment service for children/adolescents with severe, highly complex and persistent mental health problems.

To provide highly specialist supervision, consultation, teaching, training to multi-disciplinary staff within the CAMHS team and to staff of related agencies (health, education, social services, voluntary sector, and youth justice system.)

To undertake clinical audit research and evaluation as required.

To provide service supervision to trainee child and adolescent psychotherapists as appropriate.

To be responsible for the contribution to the evaluation, monitoring, development and implementation of the child psychotherapy provision.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the health board’s policies and procedures

To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development, and research.

To act as a panel member in the recruitment of designated staff, as appropriate.
