You will provide a comprehensive administrative service to the Emergency Department (ED) and facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey and be required to monitor patient activity and flow within the department and work collaboratively with the shift coordinator and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Working in partnership with the ED Nurse in Charge and the Site Managers you will maintain up to date and accurate computer based records for patient flow, chase and escalate delays in the patients emergency pathway e.g. ensure diagnostic tests are ordered and carried out at an appropriate time to aid the clinical decision making including; discharge and admission.

To support the ED shift coordinator to ensure smooth timely patient flow within Internal Professional Standards guidelines.

To report all accidents and incidents to the Nurse in Charge.

Prompt clinical team for patient movement.

Attend board rounds and contribute to patient’s plans.

Attend capacity meetings and provide an update on ED performance and flow.

Ensure the portering team are aware of all imaging requests and transfers to avoid any potential journey delays.

Answering the phones in majors and dealing with patient and relative queries.

Validating breaches in real time for accurate reasoning, and retrospectively in line with trust policy.

Booking transport when required.Liaising with other hospitals and the ambulance service in the case of emergency transfers.
