Criminal Violence Expert Caseworker to join our team working across London
The basics
**Location**: Face to face delivery: Pan-London; Agile working / office based / home based
**Hours**: 35
**Starting salary**: £33,545
Who we are
Safer London is a charity working with young Londoners and families who are affected by violence and exploitation. We believe that when a child or young person comes to us they are just that - a child or a young person: we don’t define them by the issue that has brought them to us. By working alongside young Londoners, their families and peers in the places where they spend their time, we can create a safe London not just for them but for everyone.
Who you are
You are someone with the expertise, skills and knowledge to develop trusted relationships with young Londoners in order to provide one-to-one support. This position delivers a wide variety of direct support and advocacy for the rights and protection of young Londoners affected by criminal violence. A key aspect of this role will be supporting victims and survivors through the criminal justice processes (including attending court, supporting witness statements, and advocating on behalf of the victim's voice within the criminal justice system) and supporting them to engage with people and agencies they may not trust. In this role you will offer relationship-based support which advocates for young Londoners’ needs, celebrates their strengths and helps them focus on their positive futures. In planning their support, you will consider their experience of trauma, safety and harm across the various contexts of their lives. All interventions will be trauma responsive and may last up to 2 years.
If you are committed and resilient, and believe you have what it takes to help us to improve the lives of young Londoners and their families please apply.
What the role involves
- Delivering effective one to one casework advocacy to children, young people and their families in line with the Safer London model of work in collaboration with young Londoners so that their voice is centred, and they receive the required support to meet their individual assessed needs.
- Work in a manner which honours our organisational values and is responsive to the trauma and experiences young Londoners, families and communities experience.
- Carry out robust risk assessments and strength-based needs assessments, ensuring safeguarding is the priority, to ensure the most appropriate intervention is offered and risks are managed and escalated appropriately.
- Maintain essential records accurately ensuring high quality case recording.
- Complete reports (which may be shared with statutory bodies such as the police, courts, children social care and can be shared with the family) that accurately reflect the work undertaken in professional manner.
- Maintain effective communication both written and verbal whether this is virtual, or face-to-face.
- Identify spaces and places where Young Londoners feel safe enough to engage in meaningful interventions/activities.
- Work with partners, communities and other key stakeholders to deliver the service effectively.
- Work creatively with colleagues to generate project resources and materials which are accessible to those with a range of needs as required.
- Act in accordance with safeguarding legislation and guidance, in addition to Safer London’s practice guidelines and wider pan London processes and protocols.
- Undertake any other duties as required and commensurate with the level of this post.
