We are fortunate to have a range of excellent staff networks and are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader employer. We will support talented people from all backgrounds to build a career and thrive.

**Job description**:
The role and our team Do you have a passion for helping address climate change? Heating our buildings accounts for 22% of the UK's carbon emissions today and is one of our biggest climate challenges. You could be part of the team solving this issue, and this is an excellent opportunity to work at the heart of energy policy within BEIS.

The Clean Heat Directorate is tackling arguably the most difficult decarbonisation challenge facing the country. The hydrogen heating programme is leading BEIS work with industry and regulators to deliver an extensive programme of research, development and testing projects to determine the feasibility, safety and practicability of hydrogen for heat, including major infrastructure options and impacts. We are also exploring the policy and regulatory changes that might be necessary to enable a rollout of hydrogen and create an efficient market in the long term. This programme of work will generate the evidence required to inform strategic decisions in 2026 on the role of hydrogen for heat alongside other heat decarbonisation technologies.

The hydrogen heating programme is a friendly, large, multidisciplinary team, including project delivery and policy professionals, analysts, engineers, commercial and delivery specialists. It is sociable and supportive - with a range of regular virtual social activities - and people are encouraged to ask questions and put forward their ideas in a safe environment.

We prioritise learning and development: there is a well-established local L&D programme which receives very positive feedback as well as many wider opportunities. People in the team have flexible working arrangements, including regular working from home, flexi time and compressed hours.

BEIS is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity for all the benefits it brings, and we strive to create an inclusive environment where staff feel they can bring their whole self to work. Clean Heat Directorate has an active Directorate Diversity & Inclusion group which aims to promote the agenda within the team and beyond - including working with stakeholders, discussion sessions and celebrations, and ensuring everything we do is fair and accessible. In addition to supporting the departmental Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, we have developed our own local Race Action Plan which is being implemented.

The Consumer Trials team are supporting industry to deliver the first ever grid conversion trial of hydrogen for heat in people's homes, announced in the Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution.

The Gas Distribution Networks are developing detailed designs for this hydrogen heating trial, ahead of submitting their final trial proposals in March this year.

**Person specification**:

- This post holder will support on the Consumer Trials team’s engagement with the Gas Distribution Networks and other key stakeholders. Amongst those are the Energy Networks Association (ENA), Ofgem, and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
