The post holder plays a key role in the organisation’s strategic development and operational delivery, leading a portfolio of national and local AHSN work programmes driving the adoption and spread of innovation.

The role requires effective networking; assessment of system priorities and readiness to deploy innovations; raising awareness; engaging opinion leaders and champions; overcoming barriers to adoption; and developing the case for adoption through benefit modelling.

**Main duties of the job**:
The post holder will lead a team of senior innovation leads and project officers to drive the adoption and spread of innovations across health and social care systems. The post holder will be a member of the EMAHSN programme board team.

**Working for our organisation**:
We are one of 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) around England that operate as the innovation arm of the NHS. We bring together partners from all sectors involved in health and care including the NHS, social care and public health, patients, research, third sector and industry to identify, test and spread new technologies and better ways of working. We save the NHS money, generate economic growth, empower health and care staff, and improve lives for patients. We work closely with our health and care stakeholders to establish their priorities then provide support. As part of a national network of AHSNs, we import evidenced solutions from other AHSN regions and export our successful East Midlands programmes on a national basis. We have a range of objectives, but our overarching aim is always to make a difference for patients.

**Essential criteria**:

- Educated to Masters’ degree level or equivalent experience plus formal management or project management qualification which has been tested in a management / project management role bringing knowledge and skills to PHD

**Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Proven ability and extensive experience of managing medium/large-scale innovation and improvement projects within a complex environment using a range of programme management techniques; developing and implementing business processes to meet identified business needs, acquiring and utilising necessary resources and skills, with agreed parameters of cost, timescales and quality
- Working in a senior programme management role working with a range of diverse external and public organisations including NHS agencies, local authorities, government agencies, voluntary and independent sectors

**Desirable criteria**:

- Experience of working with industry partners to implement innovation in service improvement in the NHS

**Knowledge**:

- Developing a broad range of programme management practices, tools and techniques including new and emerging ones around impact measurement, sustainability and spread

- Understanding of the dynamics within a business arena and balance against political environment

- Ability to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive information where cooperation and agreement is required from various partners
- Strong external communication skills, with experience of working with a diverse range of stakeholders at local, regional and national levels, including the ability to persuade and influence

- Able to analyse and interpret highly complex information and to develop communications, marketing and implementation strategies to ensure successful implementation, sustainability and spread of innovation
- Judgements involving a range of highly complex facts or situations, which require analysis, and interpretation of a range of options

- Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative and manage a range of diverse projects
