Trainee High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapists are employed on one year fixed term training contract that is high pressured, involving a clinical placement where you will manage a high volume caseload of high intensity service users alongside undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (PGDip CBT) where you will be required to meet frequent academic deadlines. The training post includes two days per week at University/self-directed study and three days of supervised clinical practice. Trainees are expected to progress to working with a high degree of autonomy, with high volume caseloads; this may include video consultation and face-to-face clinical work. The role is well supported with weekly clinical and monthly management supervision from qualified clinicians. In addition to clinical contact, the role will include data collection, data management, analysis and note keeping.

Your base will be Severn Fields Health Village (Shrewsbury), however you may also be required to work in a community location within the overall Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin locality.

The post holder will be taking on a training role within the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme (IAPT). The post-holder will work within the NHS Talking Therapies service providing high intensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. This intensive training post will equip the post holder to provide a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) service to clients with a range of complex problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective. The post holder will work in the service for 3 days of the week bringing their already well developed skills to practice at the same time as using the newly developed skills from the training programme which they will attend for the other 2 days.

The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.

Assess clients for suitability for psychological interventions.

To evaluate and make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the services referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary.

Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes drawing on a range of theoretical and therapeutic models across a range of complex problems with which clients present.

Use highly developed communication skills in working with people to understand their personal and often very sensitive difficulties and develop a range of treatment interventions.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of clients in line with the service.

Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying CBT and other psychological formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language.

Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
