Fixed term 11 months at 37.5 hours or 12 months at 35 hours p/w

This post is a fixed term (11 or 12 month opportunity) to join an exciting developmental Point of Care Testing project within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The post holder will support the current POCT coordinator in the provision of an effective, high quality service which will enhance clinical governance across the whole Trust site and the Gloucestershire NHS community areas.

To be responsible for supporting and coordinating other staff members involved in POCT.

To ensure that all current and future procurements of POCT equipment is fully evaluated and installed within the required framework that the Trust as laid down within its POCT policy guidelines.

The successful applicant will be HCPC registered with a completed Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent) with substantial years post registration experience and ideally a background or previous experience in POCT.

You will help develop and coordinate our governance framework for POCT, engage with a variety of healthcare professionals to implement true quality improvement in rapid and accurate diagnostic testing within the near patient testing environment. You will be involved extensively in the support and development of digital connectivity programmes, supporting dialogue and coordination of activities with a variety of IT specialists (including suppliers) in order to achieve time specified delivery targets.

Previous experience of working in POCT and involvement in preparation of ISO accredited documentation.

To work closely with the existing POCT Lead and other coordinators and POCT Clinical Lead and members of the POCT Group (including key personnel in the Integrated Care Board (ICB))

The post holder will also be dealing with a variety of key personnel including clinicians, GP’s, nursing staff, other hospital and primary care staff, supplier representatives, and engineers

Undertake projects for POCT as directed by the POCT or Clinical Scientist/ICB leads.

Responsibility for ensuring all tests are performed according to established laboratory standard operating procedures and within agreed turnaround times.

To ensure the quality of the analytical service is maintained to UKAS ISO 15189:2022 standards.

To be trained and competent in all POCT systems within the POCT network both in the acute hospital sites and community areas.

Responsibility for ensuring the procurement, implementation and safe use of expensive and complex equipment is in line with the clinical governance framework laid down within the POCT policy.

To coordinate relevant staff in initiating any troubleshooting and problem solving tasks in relation to errors with equipment, methodologies and quality control.

To deputise for the POCT coordinator & POCT clinical leads and deputise at meetings in their absence.

To be actively involved in the selection and recruitment of staff.

Ensure good communications in order to create an efficient well motivated group of staff.

To assist with the induction of new staff.

To coordinate other members of staff to provide mentoring for new members of staff, as required

To be involved with the training of Healthcare Science Practitioners, Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants. To include the preparation and presentation of tutorials.

To be an active member of Laboratory meetings and a variety of Trust based meetings such as Patient Safety and other ad hoc mee
