Lecturer - John Smith Centre

**Job Purpose**:
The John Smith Centre promotes politics as a force for positive change through thought-leadership and action. The John Smith Centre is embedded within the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow and has built a strong reputation for student opportunities and outstanding events. We seek to extend our activities at the University and beyond, encouraging young people to participate in politics.
The Centre is at an exciting stage in our development. We are currently recruiting our second Director since inception, and this year will be launching the UK’s first Youth Poll, a multi-year annual tracker poll assessing the attitudes of young people towards politics. Key to the Poll’s success and unique appeal is that students are involved in every part of it.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**-2. To work in collaboration with the John Smith Centre in making the positive case for politics and public service. This may include supporting high profile speaker events and masterclass series.
3. Develop an expert reputation in the field by effective dissemination and publishing of youth poll results through reports, the media, leading journals and conferences, and where appropriate undertaking knowledge exchange activities.
4. Make a substantial contribution to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College. Establishing and leading research collaborations with appropriate individuals and groups within the University, including multi-disciplinary links, and developing external research collaborations both nationally and internationally, to ensure that research activities are at the forefront of the field.
5. Actively contribute to the effective management and administration of the John Smith Centre and College/School, assuming responsibility for the management of allocated resources and contributing to the wider organisation of the John Smith Centre.
6. Carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria and timely and constructive feedback on assessment.
7. Develop effective approaches which enhance intellectual understanding and innovation in the field and support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.
8. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and potentially online delivery formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
10. Supervise project work at undergraduate and Masters levels and take forward the supervision and training of postgraduate research students.
11. Take on administrative or management roles within the Centre /School as assigned by the line manager.
12. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
13. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Director of the John Smith Centre.
14. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 8, £48,350 - £56,021 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hrs per week) and open ended.
