**Role**

The aim of this role is to support students in achieving their academic potential, and preparing them to transition successfully into the workplace or further study.

We are looking for experienced counsellors to work up to 20-25 hours per week, working a minimum of 4 hours per week.

The role will start as soon as possible until the end of the academic year.

**Duties and responsibilities**

Assess the needs of students presenting to Student Welfare in order to engage them in the most appropriate form of support within the division or through other provision within the university or wider community.

Work in partnership with the wider Student Welfare division and the wider university to ensure that students are offered as wide a range as possible of effective and cost effective approaches to developing their own self-efficacy,

Deliver brief/time limited Counselling to individual students within service policy guidelines.

Asses risk and ensure appropriate strategies are in place to effectively manage this within the university or by referral to statutory services, as appropriate.

Maintain detailed and contemporaneous records of all contacts with students and undertake all necessary administrative tasks in relation to the role.

Actively use systems that are in place to support effective service provision, which currently includes CORE (Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation).

**Skills and experience**

Relevant professional qualification such as PG Diploma in Counselling, Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or related area.

Registered with appropriate professional body such as BACP/BABCP/UKCP or HCPC. In the case of Counsellors in addition they should hold current accreditation.

Experience of Working with young people and adults using brief and time limited therapeutic approaches

Experience of working with socially and culturally diverse client groups

Ability to carry out high quality assessments based on a needs led approach to service provision

Advanced risk assessment and management skills in relation to student wellbeing, especially in relation to mental health

Able to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries, whilst providing a flexible and responsive service.

Able to provide a transparent and accessible service whilst having due regard to confidentiality
