An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our expanding team of Band 2 Receptionists at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Working with a busy team of administrative and clinical staff within the Emergency Department.

Assisting in the administration for the reception areas in the Emergency Department this post requires keyboard skills, excellent customer service experience and the ability to multitask whilst working in a busy fast pace environment.

The ability to observe patient confidentiality and maintain a professional manner are essential. The post holder will be required to work with mínimal supervision and have the ability to work under extreme pressure and be able to exercise sound judgement and decision making skills whilst working as part of a team or under own initiative.

The post holder will be responsible for the registration of patients, booking patient appointments, and any other administration duties. The reception is a 24-hour service and the post-holder will be expected to cover shifts which will include evenings, nights and weekends in the hospital's busy Emergency Department.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

1) To provide an efficient first point of contact for patients and visitors to
the Emergency Department, both in person and on the telephone, in a pleasant and friendly manner. To assess information gained from initial follow-up action that enables effective prioritisation.
2) To be able to work effectively within a small administration team during
the day and be confident to work autonomously. This includes exercising a high degree of problem solving skills, utilising knowledge, experience and initiative and taking responsibility for making decisions to ensure the smooth and effective running of the reception service.
3) To be able to work under pressure, being the first point of contact and
part of a multi-disciplinary team, recognising and acknowledging the
differing components and responsibilities of that team. Utilise that
knowledge to help deal with fluctuating workload and demands with the
department to help ensure standards of patient care are maintained at all times.
4) To maintain confidentiality at all times relating to the patients, staff and the Trust
5) Undertake other duties, which are deemed appropriate to the post and
in line with current levels of responsibility.
6) To actively participate in the Staff Appraisal process
