Little Havens is looking for a dynamic experienced Paediatric Nurse to lead our specialist in-patient children and young peoples (0- 25) respite and palliative care team.

You will have experience in
- Nursing children & young people
- Caring for children and young people with complex needs
- Care of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
- Caring for young adults at transition stage
- Palliative & bereavement care

Based in Benfleet, south Essex, Little Havens Children’s Hospice provides care for babies, children & young people who have life limiting conditions, many of whom have Special Educational Needs & Disabilities. We work with our community partners and focus on the individual needs of the children and families we care for.
- Manages and supports the team in conjunction with the departmental manger, including students and volunteer staff on a daily basis.
- Ensures adequate staffing levels are maintained to ensure safety, setting and directing work priorities for team members.
- Regularly takes responsibility for being the nurse in charge, managing frequent changes and leading the shift.
- Ensure care is delivered of the highest standards which is safe, responsive. Well led, effective and caring
- Promote a culture of safeguarding babies, children and young people at risk, recognising risk and taking appropriate action where required
- Promote a culture of dignity, respect and independence in patient care
- Responsible for delegating workload to staff, ensure nursing care is delivered to the highest standard and reflects the needs of babies, children and young people.
- Responsible for assessing and managing the needs of babies, children and young people assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care followingclearly defined policies, protocols, procedures, or codes of conduct.
- Ensure that, as far as possible, family and / or carers are included in guiding the care provided and can deliver care where it is safe, and they wish to do so.
- Provides specialist symptom management and support
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Liaise with other professionals working within tertiary, primary and secondary care settings, regarding care when required

- Accountable for adhering to medicines management policy.
- Always act as an advocate for patient / children and young people.
- Provide support for families and other carers, prior to and following a death, involving other agencies or disciplines when appropriate.
- Assist medical staff in chaperoning patients, supporting discussions and management of their care.
- Participate in the education of other professional and non-professional staff.
- Be prepared to mentor students from educational establishments on clinical placements.
- Work as part of a team supporting community hospice services.
- To lead the moving and handling of vulnerable patients, often involving specialist lifting and handling equipment, ensuing that policies and procedures are in place and adhered to
- Risk of exposure to bodily substances defined as hazardous.
- Rigorous adherence to organisational infection prevention policies and procedures including the use of personal protective equipmentlearly make and effectively communicate decisions to staff, patients and colleagues including volunteers
- Assist the departmental manager with 1 to 1’s and generic staff support
- Nurture a proactive team culture by actively seeking solutions to problems.
- Responsible for conforming to the policies and procedures as set out by the organisation, including health & safety requirements.
- Attends participates and presents patients at MDT meetings.
- Lead staff meetings as required or instructed to do so.
