Technology is driving fundamental changes to our society, driven by the critical role personal data is playing in our digital lives. What role could you play in influencing the way we support innovation and technological change while also protecting privacy and information rights?
**About us**
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is the UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. It is our goal to increase the public’s trust and confidence in how their data is used and made available. By staying up to date with evolving technology, we’re able to enforce the laws that we’ve helped shape whilst also providing an excellent public service. Our work is interesting and immensely rewarding - it’s of national importance and increasingly in the public eye. As a result, more people than ever before are turning to us for help.

*
About the role*
You will research, monitor and investigate current and emerging technologies in our TechLab assessing their potential impact on information rights. Your technical analysis will provide the ICO with an understanding of how the technology impacts on information rights and will be used to shape and support the development of guidance products and investigations, audits and other activities.
Additionally, you will help address the real world needs of colleagues in relation to the technology-related issues they are working on. You will act as an adviser to other ICO projects and make a significant contribution to the development and promotion of the ICO’s responses to these technologies, with the goal of ensuring that information rights regulation keeps pace with technological advancements.
You will be passionate in separating the hype from the reality, and focused on helping shape future technological developments to better respect and uphold the rights of citizens.
*
About you*
- We are looking for someone with a broad technical skillset and three to five years’ experience in an information and communications technology or computing role at a graduate level. Your experience may be in research, development, testing, network security, network architecture, software or system administration or IT security. We are keen to hear from anyone who feels they may have something to offer.
- You will have up to date knowledge of current trends and practices relating to the use of information, communications and/or information security technologies and be able to research emerging technologies and information security risks assessing their potential impact on information rights, and the ability to explain these issues to a non-technical audience.
