The newly created role of Alumni Volunteer Coordinator sits within the University’s Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) and is critical to our work in building and developing engagement opportunities for our alumni community, locally and globally. DARO engages and maintains relationships with circa 150,000+ alumni worldwide and harnesses the alumni network in support of the strategic objectives of the University. This includes increasing financial support to the University and ensuring that the expertise and volunteering potential of graduates is maximised. DARO works in partnership with professional services and academic colleagues to build relationships with external constituents, including alumni, friends, corporates, trusts and foundations.

The Alumni Volunteer Coordinator role will be a key bridging role between our supporters and fulfilling the strategic needs of the University. The University aims to provide a greater range of opportunities for our alumni and supporters to contribute towards our work and our success. Volunteering, both in person and online, is essential to benefiting the wider community of the University of Hull, whilst delivering significant individual rewards to those who choose to give their time and knowledge to us.

You will work with colleagues to create and support volunteering opportunities that will enhance our outreach and our recruitment efforts, as well as supporting the employability and general wellbeing of students. Working closely with colleagues from across the university, you will identify key areas of need that would benefit from a coordinated volunteer effort. This will include expansion of our alumni mentor programme, recruitment of alumni as guest speakers and content generators and in the organisation and delivery of events. We are keen to build alumni participation in student recruitment activities such as Open Days and outreach visits to schools and colleges around the UK. Beyond the UK, growth and oversight of international alumni chapters and groups is a further area of need.

You will appreciate the value of a good volunteering experience and seek to deliver this across the board. Working both proactively and in response to demand, you will build a bank of volunteers which will include a range of specialised and generalised roles. Working with colleagues in DARO and across the University you will recruit, induct, train and maintain positive relationships with a diverse group of alumni volunteers.

The ability to build and shape experiences that have the biggest impact for the University and the volunteers themselves is essential. You will have excellent organisational skills and the initiative to manage your own workload. You will develop positive working relationships with colleagues from across the University. You will have the creativity to develop new volunteering opportunities that not only provide positive experiences to alumni but that complement and are in line with the University’s strategic aims.
