- ABOUT US
- The Institute of Inner City Learning (IICL) is one of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s four Institutes with campuses in Birmingham and London.
The IICL has multiple intakes per annum, delivers continuous learning, teaching and recruitment cycles and operates in an intensely competitive inner-city and multicultural HE environment. The Institute currently has approx. 4,000 non-residential students on Certificates of Higher Education, Honours degrees, Masters and Doctoral programmes, some of which are also taught at weekends.
- THE ROLE
- The Principal Administrative Officer (Assessment) is a key administrative post within the administrative structure of the Birmingham campus. The post requires an individual who is highly skilled in administrative work and who can develop and promulgate good practice in academic administration.
Working with the Assistant Dean (Quality and Enhancement) the post holder will manage the day-to-day operation of the Campus’ assessment related services (weekdays and weekends) and will co-ordinate and line-manage the Assessment Team in full compliance with UWTSD’s guidelines and statutory and regulatory requirements.
Main duties will include:

- To provide appropriate training, support and guidance for the Assessment Team and relevant administrative staff, as well as for colleagues from other UWTSD locations.
- To provide appropriate support to the Assessment Team in the context of Professional Development Review processes.
- To closely work with Registry, and to develop and maintain effective links with other support units such as the Academic Office, International Units, etc.
- To ensure that all deadlines set for data and reports set are met promptly.
- To support the ADQE and QA team in the analysis of Assessment related data.
- To support the ADQE with the administrative arrangements for Examining Boards, programme validation, monitoring and review processes, and key committees.
- To prepare and present regular reports on Assessment activity.
- In close liaison with the Programme Managers, to ensure that marking, second marking, moderation and sampling by External Examiners are completed in line with the University’s requirements and processes.
- To ensure that all assessment related data is captured in a full, accurate and timely fashion, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- To ensure that due process is followed in relation to collating all student profiles leading to accurate and timely release of student results.
- To ensure that any queries relating to results from students are answered efficiently and effectively.

- REQUIREMENTS
- You should have:

- Educated to degree level or has relevant professional experience
- Previous experience in providing high quality administrative support
- Previous experience of leading and/or managing teams
- Previous experience of working in a similar role in Higher Education
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Ability to meet tight deadlines
- Possess excellent IT skills
- Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to work unsupervised
- Demonstrates respect for a diverse range of people and recognises the importance of building sound working relationships
- Able to work as part of a team and in partnership with others
- Recognises the need for and demonstrates appropriate confidentiality
- Adopts a positive approach to personal learning and development
- Able and prepared to work flexibly, including travel between campuses and locations when required
