Blackburn, United Kingdom East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

East Lancashire Hospitals are looking to appoint a substantive Consultant in Critical Care and Acute Medicine to enhance the provision of consultant-led care to all critical care and acute medicine patients.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a consultant to join our team at Royal Blackburn Hospital. We currently have 19 Consultant Intensivists who staff the 32 bedded critical care unit and the Acute Medicine department is an 82-bedded unit with 13 Acute Physicians.

The direct clinical care work on the 10 PA contract will initially comprise of 8.5 PAs for clinical care and 1.5 PAs of time reserved for SPA. Of the clinical activity 5.3 PA will be delivered in Critical Care with the remainder in Acute Medicine. This ratio may change dependent on the need of the service.

The 5.3 critical care PAs include daytime sessions on critical care, the weekly MDT as well as on call for the ICU which currently averages out to 2.4 PAs per week but will reduce proportionately with an increase in personnel and a corresponding reduction of the on-call frequency.

For acute medicine the post-holder will actively participate in senior overview of the management of all patients in the department, with consultants present on the unit from 8:00 till 20:30 seven days a week. The Consultant Acute Physicians are supported by 6 Acute Specialty Doctors, 9 Advanced Care Practitioners, 1 Physician Associate, as well as 10 rotating junior doctors. There is a supporting medical on-call team attached to the department 24 hours a day. Out-of-hours consultant cover is provided by the on-call medical consultant.

Our organisation is driven by our strategic objectives and organisational values and we look for people who are strongly aligned to them. The successful applicant will join a flexible, supportive team who work well together. We also have a high commitment to teaching and training, receive excellent feedback from our trainees and have high exam pass rates.

Applicants will hold Full registration with GMC and a licence to practise

Applicants will either be on the specialist register or be within six months of their expected date of CCT at the time of interview.

**Applicants must possess the following skills**:

- Able to fully integrate within the unit, demonstrating team work and flexibility
