London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK’s best known hospitals - Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. We have around 22,700 staff, making us one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country and one of the biggest employers locally. We aim to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and continue to develop new and existing partnerships with local people, patients, neighbouring NHS organisations, local authorities and charitable bodies and GPs.

The commitment of our staff is key to our success. We strive to recruit and retain the best staff as the dedication and skills of our employees lie at the heart of our organisation and ensure that our services are of the highest quality, safe and focused on our patients. We aim to develop and support all our staff so they are able to deliver high quality, safe and efficient care.

We also have a long tradition of clinical and scientific achievement and - as part of King’s Health Partners - we are one of England’s eight academic health sciences centres, bringing together world-class clinical services, teaching and research. We have one of the National Institute for Health Research’s biomedical research centres, established with King’s College London in 2007, as well as dedicated clinical research facilities.

This role is an exciting opportunity for someone to develop and lead a new IPC Healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) Surveillance and Epidemiology function with responsibility for bringing digital solutions to generate accurate surveillance data and epidemiological information to support IPC and other Directorate clinical services.

Managing a multidisciplinary team, you will support the identification of healthcare-associated infection (including SSI), and the management of infection and outbreaks, and the antimicrobial stewardship programme in order to improve patient care and reduce harm. You will also work with and underpin HCAI/AMR applied research as part of the Centre for Clinical Infection & Diagnostics Research.

The Trust’s Directorate of Infection (DOI) comprises Infection Prevention & Control (IPC), Infectious Diseases (ID), the antimicrobial pharmacy team, the Centre for Clinical Infection & Diagnostics Research (CIDR), and the diagnostic laboratories (Microbiology and Virology). For over a decade, seamless integration of these essential elements has been the hallmark of our service delivery model. The Trust currently reports amongst the best IPC performance in the Shelford group of England’s 10 leading academic healthcare organisations and is widely regarded as a national exemplar for IPC.

You will lead the IPC HCAI surveillance and epidemiology services with responsibility for generating accurate HCAI surveillance data for mandatory reporting and providing epidemiological information to support IPC and other Directorate clinical services; manage a team of analysts; lead the HCAI surveillance team (including surgical site infection, SSI); support the antimicrobial stewardship programme; collaborate or lead HCAI/AMR applied research as part of the Centre for Clinical Infection & Diagnostics Research; and develop and implement electronic systems to support IPC services (including EPIC/Bugsy).
