This job vacancy is to work on a busy Acute Stroke Unit providing and supporting our current excellent reception service for the ward using the door security system as appropriate, receiving patients, visitors and staff in a polite and courteous manner, dealing sensitively with people in person and on the phone. You will ensure telephone enquiries are answered promptly, courteously and accurately with due regard to patient confidentiality.

You need to be consistent in delivering patient focussed service which promotes good customer service and effective working relationships between patients relatives and staff.

To ensure the non-clinical needs of patients, relatives and carers are met to obtain the best patient experience. Ensure that the appropriate documentation of all admissions is completed in an accurate and timely manner collating necessary information as appropriate.to ensure clinical data are accurate at all times.

To be responsible for confirming the patient movement on Careflow database in order that patient activity statistics are updated on a regular basis.

To be responsible for confirming the route of admission on Careflow ensuring that transfer of care to another consultant is also amended. You will be responsible for filing of patient medical notes after the patient’s transfer or discharge. You will also be responsible for organising and allocating patients to the Stroke Follow Up appointment

To provide a comprehensive, efficient and effective clerical/administrative support to nursing and medical staff at ward level. The post holder will promote and encourage a caring and sympathetic environment for patients, relatives and staff ensuring that high standards of service are continually maintained. The post holder will be the first point of contact for other departments, patient’s relatives and outside agencies. The nature of duties undertaken within this post dictates that strict confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.

As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.

We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
