**JOB PURPOSE**:
To lead on the delivery of a termly youth-voice magazine via a weekly 1.5 hour face-to-face session in Market Harborough in an environment where young people feel respected and valued. The sessions offer an opportunity for young people to be part of the whole magazine production process from writing articles, choosing photography, contributing to the design and engaging in discussions. Young people are also integral to the Speak Out website and a link between the face-to-face sessions and the Speak Out Coordinator. In addition to the weekly session, you will be involved in the distribution of the magazine, liaising with teachers within schools, networking and ad hoc activities to help broaden the reach of the Speak Out magazine and website. This post is currently funded by the National Lottery Community fund.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Plan, organise, deliver and review youth work session for young people aged 11 - 18 years, working with the Youth Work Assistant.
- Be the lead worker during the session, responsible for ensuring the health and safety of participants and co-worker.
- Attend and arrive punctually to the session, staff meetings, training and supervisions.
- Work in a participatory way, seeking and giving due consideration to the views of young people.
- Write and carry out comprehensive risk assessments where required (for example a Speak Out trip).
- Assess and respond to any risks arising during sessions.
- Report any safety concerns to the manager.
- Record and communicate young people’s learning and development as required by the line manager.
- Work in a manner which respects confidentiality of service users and their families.
- Work in an inclusive way and challenge discrimination in all its forms.
- Liaise with schools to provide creative briefs set by the young people.
- Liaise with the Speak Out designer, providing the articles, images and other content that has been completed by the young people.
- Work to termly deadlines to complete the magazine and arrange distribution of the magazine to schools and other locations in a timely manner.
- Edit and proofread draft articles and content and magazine proofs.
- Assist the Speak Out Coordinator with the development of the website and networking to increase remote contributions to the website and increase numbers for the face-to-face session when required.
- Attend Teams meetings or face-to-face meetings with the Speak Out Coordinator when requested.
- Weekly social media posts to increase website traffic and readership of articles and raise awareness of the Speak Out Project.
- Complete termly data reports summarising key achievements and young people attendance for the weekly sessions.
- Manage a small budget to provide the young people in the sessions with snacks and activities
- Complete a weekly timesheet and annotate Equals spend monthly.
- Conduct any other tasks which may be reasonably required of you in relation to the post as required by your line manager.

**CANDIDATE**:
HCYC is looking for a team worker with a positive, enthusiastic attitude towards children and young people. You will have experience of working with children and/or young people in an informal setting. You will need to have the skills to responsibly lead staff in running safe, positive sessions for young people. You will be keen to learn and develop your practice and be motivated to make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people. You will be well organised, punctual and an excellent communicator, with the ability to form positive relationships with young people and other community members.
