**POST TITLE**: Mentor

**SALARY**: £25,979 to £28,282 pro rata + 6% Employer Pension

**HOURS OF WORK**: 16 hours per week to be worked flexibly as required.

**RESPONSIBLE TO**: The Mentor is responsible to and receives regular support and supervision from the Mentoring Project Coordinator.

**PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT**: Permanent

**VARIATIONS TO STANDARD CONDITIONS OF SERVICE**:
1. Enhanced DBS clearance is required for this post.

2. Full, clean driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle with Business Car Insurance. Reimbursement of in work travel expenses for public transport or at 20p per mile for bicycle travel or 45p per mile for car travel.

3. Home/Outreach based - post holder will be provided with appropriate equipment.

**THE CHARITY**:
Harborough District Children and Young People’s Charity help vulnerable and isolated children and young people across Harborough District in South Leicestershire, in the context of their families and communities. It does this by providing play and youth work activity sessions, clubs and projects in villages and towns. This post is to become a Mentor within mentoring programme, which is 2.5 years into the 5-year Lottery Community Funded Youth Connect Project.

**KEY TASKS**:
To be a Mentor within a small mentoring programme overseen by the Mentoring Project Coordinator. The post holder will be responsible for supporting, assisting, encouraging, and inspiring a small number of young people. You will provide high quality youth provision and safe opportunities for informal learning in accordance with the young people’s individual needs. The youth provision must include opportunities for children and young people to improve their mental and emotional resilience; increase their skills and knowledge for life, health, and vocations; improve their relationships with peers and adults; and increase their pride in self-identity, culture, and community.

The Mentor will be supervised by the Mentoring Project Coordinator in a safe, supportive environment in which they can develop and improve their skills to ensure good outcomes for young people.

**GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**The Programme**
- Organise, deliver, and review a range of mentoring sessions for the mentees, guided by their wants and needs and in line with stakeholder requirements.
- To plan and monitor spend of a small session delivery budget in line with organisational systems.
- Willing and able to transport young people (1:1) to enable the young person to participate in the provision.
- To provide relevant information to the Mentoring Project Coordinator to enable them to continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the mentoring programme and make necessary adjustments.

**Young People and their families**
- Promote the mentoring programme to young people and their families to encourage participation, in collaboration with the other HCYC Project Coordinators and Leaders.
- Follow HCYC policy in relation to confidentiality and work in a manner which respects confidentiality of service users and their families.
- Follow HCYC policy in relation to Equality of Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory Practice, always working in an inclusive way, and challenging discrimination in all its forms.

**Multi-agency working**
- Liaise with other professionals and services that can provide additional support to the young people that are in the programme.

**Safeguarding and Health and Safety**
**- **Follow HCYC policy and procedures in relation to safeguarding children, maintaining your knowledge, and training to ensure your safeguarding competence and confidence.
- Be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of children and young people through producing and carrying out comprehensive risk assessments for the mentoring sessions.
- Undertake HCYC’s work in line with all its policies and procedures, including the Health and Safety Policy and Lone Working Policy.
- Assess and respond to any risks arising during sessions and make the appropriate records, reporting any concerns to the Charity Manager.

**Quality Assurance**
**- **Ensure high quality service delivery at point of contact for children and young people by planning and delivering mentoring sessions which are in accordance with HCYC policies and with HCYC Principles and Practices.
- Work to organisational and project plans, through delivering agreed outputs and identified outcomes.
- Record and report on all delivery in the agreed format and timescales to the Mentoring Project Coordinator and/or Charity Manager.

**Personal Development**
- Attend Training, Supervisions and Planning sessions for the benefit of personal development and the Charity.

**Staff Team**
**- **Contribute to the organisation’s vision and direction by supporting the Charity Manager with the evolution and implementation of the Strategic Plan.
- Attend any staff or stakeholder meetings
