**Role: Employment Support Worker**

**Location**: Downham Market

**Salary**:£3432 (£11ph)

**Responsible to**: Project Coordinator, Love Downham

**Type/Hours**: This is a fixed-term contract for 1 year, 6 hours a week. Hours will be required to be worked due to need and demand and could include weekends and evenings.

**The Organisation**: Swan Youth Project is a community-based youth charity located in Downham Market West Norfolk, an area marked by significant disadvantage in learning, skills, employment, and health

The project was created to be a centre of excellence for youth work in the area, empowering, enabling and educating young people to be the best they can. We deliver programs in Downham Market Norfolk

Our approach to delivering services is key to our success and focuses on youth engagement which enables us to deliver innovative but focused programs in response to need. We aim to support our young people to overcome their barriers and achieve their aspirations, empowering them with the confidence, skills and knowledge necessary to resolve their own needs in the long term.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Employment Support Duties**
- To link with young people who are NEET/at risk of NEET aged 16 - 25
- To set up work placements at our Love Downham shop
- To timetable the work placements, liaising with the Project Coordinator to cover the shop appropriately.
- To deliver workshops to the young people on a range of topics around ‘work readiness’
- To deliver 1:1 support for ‘work readiness’
- To work alongside the young people in the shop, modelling excellent customer service and retail skills

**General**
- To undertake training and attend team meetings and staff supervision
- To cover the shop in the absence of the Project Coordinator
- Develop effective relationships with other agencies/businesses that are working within the community
- Promote the charity in a positive manner to other businesses and services, encouraging joined up working where possible.
- To undertake other appropriate tasks needed to support the running of the project

**Person Specification**

**Essential**
- Experience of working with/supporting young people
- Experience/knowledge of job hunting
- Experience of delivering workshops/teaching
- Able to work on own initiative
- Experience of working effectively in a team
- Good communication skills - oral and written
- Good mathematical skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent customer service skills
- Flexibility and a willingness to learn
- High standards of work and motivation
- Able to use common sense and work independently
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding young and vulnerable people

**Desirable (not essential training can be provided)**
- First Aid At Work Certificate
- Experience of supporting young people back to work
- Retail experience
- Other skills or qualifications to enhance your programmes with young people
