**Background**

DIT Education was established to help the UK education and training sector win business overseas. We identify large-scale, complex commercial opportunities in education and training markets overseas and help UK organisations, both public and private to access and pursue them.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government Department that champions international business in the UK, helping exporters and attracting inward investment to enable UK-based businesses to succeed in the global economy.

**Context**

International education - in all its forms - represents a huge opportunity for the UK. It is estimated that in 2019 education exports were worth £25.2bn to the UK economy. Growth is expected to continue globally as a result of demographic change and rising incomes in emerging markets.

There are several countries where there is demand for significant education system change but insufficient knowledge and capability to achieve this. This demand can extend across a range of education sub-sectors, including provision of education and training from pre-school levels through to post graduate and on-going professional development, education technology and resources, qualifications, assessment and quality assurance, teaching and leadership, support services and financing of education projects.

Since the Education team was launched in mid-2013, it has helped UK education and training providers secure billions of new business overseas. It has developed pipelines of tangible, large-scale education projects in markets including the Middle East, China, Latin America and Southeast Asia; and developed relationships with overseas government undertaking ambitious plans to transform their education systems.

The team draws on a range of sources of expertise including the teams own market research, advice from DIT, FCDO and British Council colleagues overseas and intelligence from a wide of UK education organisations to identify and assess opportunities and develop plans to support UK education organisations to access potential business.

**Job description**:
As an Assistant Director in the team, you have the chance to play a pivotal role in the next stage of the team’s success and in its development. The Africa and Europe regions offer significant opportunities for UK education providers and the post holder will:
**Formulate strategies for accessing those education opportunities**, working with relevant stake holders in the UK government network and the UK education and training sector.

**Lead the delivery of agreed market strategies**, working with partners to ensure a broad range of UK education and training organisations engage in the team’s projects and receive targeted support to secure business overseas this may include building formal bidding consortia, where appropriate and helping UK organisations access support from UK Export Finance where necessary.

**Work flexibility with team members and play a leading role to help deliver the teams overall goals and support the broader team**; in supporting the development of the education sector’s capacity to export, which the team has an important role to play in delivering the government’s 2020 export ambition.

**Build and manage relationships with companies, institutions and other organisations in the education and training sector**, UK Posts overseas, other government departments and overseas governments, ensuring the teams work taking account of partners interests and priorities.

**Undertake scoping exercises for selected markets, oversee, review and analyse market research** and develop pipelines of potential commercial education opportunities.

**Develop a thorough understanding of the UK education & training sector and relevant international education markets**, with a specific focus on commercial business models for successful overseas delivery. The role will also lead on the proactive promotion of education exports to Africa and Europe which both markets have real growth potential for the UK and are one of the five top priority markets for Sir Steve Smith as the International Education Champion. You will lead on the removal of market access barriers where applicable within both regions and will involve working with businesses, trade associations and professional bodies.
