**Event Planning Intern/Volunteer**

The Afghanistan & Central Asian Association (ACAA) is an award-winning charity founded by Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi, who arrived as a refugee in the back of a refrigerated container with his young family in 1999. The charity has steadily grown since its’ inception in 2000 and has a solid reputation for high quality, culturally sensitive services based on utilising the lived experience of its’ Director, Trustees, staff and volunteers. We support and promote social and economic integration of an increasing number of Afghan and other refugees. The approach taken by our founding Director, Dr Nasimi, and ACAA has always focused on the importance of lived experience and to this day, we remain a user-led refugee charity with refugees at the centre of our work as trustees, staff, volunteers and advisors, bringing a wealth of experience of the challenges of migration but also the integration solutions which have worked for them.

ACAA’s work has been recognised with a range of prestigious awards including Queens Award for Voluntary Service, Refugee Support Service of the Year 2019, Community Award 2019; whilst Dr. Nasimi received a British Citizen Award 2020 and MBE (January 2023).

**Background**

We are looking for volunteers who can help with planning and organising ACAA events across the year. These include but are not limited to conferences, panel discussions, project launch events, indoor cultural events, concerts and outdoor festivals. You will work with staff on all aspects of event planning and management.

**Duties**
- Identifying suitable venues - indoor and outdoor
- Finding and liaising with musicians, performers, speakers
- Planning event logistics, such as stage, sound system, toilets, fencing, tents etc
- Selling tickets, sending invitations and working on marketing and outreach
- Creating promotional leaflets and Eventbrite pages
- Coordinating entertainment, including music, performers, and guest speakers
- Assisting with event set-up, organising vendors, recruiting volunteers
- Communicating with marketing team to create effective advertisements for each event, and crafting marketing materials

Pay: £1.00 per year
