**About us**:
This pan-European effort brings together 17 partners from 10 countries in a highly impactful project, whose ambition is to generate holistic technological solutions to decarbonize Europe’s older (heritage) building stock.

The research project addresses two key issues:

- It aims to develop the next generation of “green” radiative cooling coatings and paints that are durable, scalable, cost efficient, environmentally friendly and easy to apply.

This research will be supported by an experienced network of academic institutions, industrial partners and government and non-government organisations.

**About the role**:
We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher to join our team to help us fulfil the project’s goals, producing research of the highest standard.

The work will specifically involve the development of new coating and paint formulations that combine simultaneous high solar reflectance and high emissivity and can generate passive cooling. The work will also involve the synthesis of inorganic or/and organic nanoparticles and their incorporation in the paint formulations to create composite materials with enhanced functional properties. Moreover, the work will involve scaling up the most promising formulations and testing them under real environmental conditions in several sites across Europe.

The post is available from January 2024 for 18 months in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available.

**About you**:
Applicants should have a PhD degree (or about to submit) in Materials Science, Chemistry or Engineering or relevant working experience demonstrated via publications in international journals / conferences or patents. Knowledge of organic paint formulations, nanoparticle synthesis, porous media and composite materials is essential. Applicants should have strong skills in organic coating/paint formulation development. Strong skills in general experimental characterisation techniques such as SEM, TEM, AFM microscopy, XRD, XPS, Raman, NMR spectroscopy, FTIR, UV/VIS or other are also required.

Knowledge of radiative cooling principles and of general sustainability considerations in coating and paint formulation are desirable.
