**Deputy Head Groundsperson**

STRI has been delivering bespoke research and development solutions on an 8-hectare site in Yorkshire since its inception in 1929. The latest innovations in turf-related technologies continue to be imagined, tested and developed on site as we strive to continually improve playability and sustainability of natural sports and amenity surfaces.

We are looking for a talented individual to join the UK grounds team, based in Bingley, West Yorkshire.

STRI runs a wide variety of research trials, product tests and machinery testing for a broad selection of clients ranging from governing bodies of sport to various commercial entities. With a variety of changes and challenges being presented to the industry, this is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of research and innovative solutions.

This is a unique and varied role which would suit someone wanting to further develop their career and learn a variety of different maintenance practices. Working hours are predominantly Mon-Fri 8:15 - 16:00.

**The role will include**:

- Carrying out area preparation, grass establishment and turf maintenance in accordance with trial requirements.
- Maintenance of turf areas, either under trial management protocol or as part of routine maintenance.
- Liaise with individual project staff on turf maintenance requirements and scheduling for specific research trials.
- Monitor areas and working with the Head grounds-person, develop plans for routine maintenance, renovation, construction and strategic improvements.
- Responsibility for keeping records of health and safety requirements through PUWER, risk assessments and maintenance of equipment and infrastructure systems.
- Assist with training and development of Grounds and Facilities team members.
- Carry out, working alongside the Head Grounds-person, works associated with upkeep of non-turf areas and buildings.
- Lead the team, with the guidance of the Head grounds-person, in delivery of the tasks for the day, ensuring the team operates efficiently and to a high standard.
- Ensure the team are keeping up to date with all administrative responsibilities.
- Attention to detail and flexibility of working style to tackle challenges.
- A desire for self-improvement and the ability to take responsibility for tasks allocated to them and the team they work with.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to work as part of a team and to produce high level standards of sports turf.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Basic computer skills
- PA1 and PA6 spraying certification.

**Desirable but not essential**:

- NVQ qualifications in sports turf maintenance or equivalent.
- Previous management/ team leadership experience.
- Proven experience of maintaining high level sport surfaces.
- PA2 spraying certification.
