An exciting opportunity is available at University Hospital Sussex (UHSx) NHS Foundation Trust to employ two full time/part time Lead Medical Examiner Officers across the UHSx Hospital sites. After successful implementation of the Medical Examiner (ME) Service in our acute hospitals, we are expanding into the Community and Primary Care Settings in the West Sussex and Brighton locations.

We have set up Medical Examiner Offices within the following sites of the Trust:

- St Richards Hospital in Chichester
- Worthing General Hospital
- Princess Royal Hospital at Haywards Heath

The posholder will act as lead member of the UHSussex Medical Examiner Office(s) to support the Lead Medical Examiners, Medical Examiners, and Medical Examiner Officers (MEOs) to develop the Medical Examiner Office functions, in line with the implementation of policy reforms of death certification and to aim to improve local processes of death certification and referrals to the Coroner.

This will include the development of protocols, guidelines, and policies for the service development and implementation of a system wide model across the UHSussex organisation. The postholder will be an expert point of contact and source of advice for relatives of deceased patients, colleagues, healthcare professionals, coroner, and registration services.

The principal functions of the lead MEOs would include leadership and oversight for:

- Leadership and support for strategic direction of the management of the MEOs and support to MEs across the UH Sussex
- Establishing the National Model across the UHSussex
- Unification and accountability for mandated quarterly report to the Regional ME office
- Oversight and assurance reports for services provided
