Package:

£25,000 per annum.

About ASH Wales

Our mission is to achieve a smokefree Wales by working for strong tobacco control policy. We work to raise awareness of the health, social and economic effects of smoking by working with communities, young people and partners across Wales.

We work on projects, campaigns and policy in order to achieve a reduction in, and eventual elimination of, the health problems associated with smoking and tobacco use.

We’re experienced and knowledgeable about tobacco control and smoking issues, and we’re happy to share our experience with others. We are involved in a wide range of activities including coordinating professional networks to bring together people in Wales working in tobacco control.

Our key activities

Communicate the issues relating to smoking and tobacco use in Wales.

Build effective networks of interested parties working in tobacco control in Wales.

Provide support and advocacy to individuals and projects in the tobacco control arena, and to those who are not adequately represented in public health policy or practice.

Lobby for public health measures to protect the health of all people in Wales from the harm caused by smoking and tobacco.

Research and develop policy and projects in the areas of smoking and tobacco control.

Purpose of the role

As Engagement Officer, you will be a creative and strategic thinker with the ability to connect with a community of healthcare professionals, third sector partners and other stakeholders across Wales and beyond. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our digital messaging to build on our reputation as a trusted provider of research and evidence to support our aims and values. As a fully remote team member, you will need a high level of self-motivation and organisation to get the job done. You will be responsible for organising and delivering high-profile events and using social media and other communications to extend the reach of our work and message.

Key responsibilities

* Demonstrate strong communication skills, including copywriting & stakeholder engagement

* Plan and deliver engaging content across all digital platforms, and at in-person events, to underpin our aims and values

* Lead on the development of our digital voice, to increase impact, influence and engagement

* Tell the story, uphold the values and protect the reputation of Wales’ leading tobacco control organisation

Key duties and activities

Stakeholder engagement & network building

* Deliver impactful, evidence-based messaging and story-telling that will resonate with our audiences

* Develop new and engaging communications and events, which impact the lives of those affected by tobacco use in Wales

* Build on the success of existing active campaigns, such as Smokefree Beaches

* Maintaining stakeholder database

* Create and distribute materials and resources

* Evaluate delivery outcomes to ensure continuous improvement

Website

* Write, design and publish stand-out web content

* Use SEO skills to drive traffic to the website

* Report quarterly on reach and impact of our content to ensure continuous improvement

Social Media

* Create eye-catching and thought-provoking social media content

* Build our brand on socials, ensuring we are targeting the right audiences on the right platforms

* Keep up to date on smoking-related activity on social media channels and respond accordingly

* Monitor, report and review social media activity to ensure continuous improvement

Copywriting

* Write accurate and accessible content; including blogs, social media posts and our newsletter

* Create, write and distribute monthly newsletter to highlight our latest news, developments and campaigns to as wide an audience as possible

* Write and distribute press releases

* Write briefings on campaigns for the policy team and stakeholders

Events

* Develop exciting and engaging ideas to take our events to the next level

* Organise events to support and boost campaign activity or policy
