Our client is looking for an experienced Housing Needs Officer.
To provide a high-quality service for households in housing need irrespective of tenure; emphasis on the prevention/relief of homelessness and the provision of advice and support to achieve best outcomes; engaging with customers to deliver housing services that work for them.
Experience
A responsible position delivering a customer focused service or able to demonstrate the right aptitude for the role.
Know how to find information about accommodation options and be able to brief customers on these.
Have a good working knowledge of available accommodation provisions.
Have a good, current working knowledge of relevant agencies and make referrals to these where appropriate.
Knowledge
* Awareness of the benefits system and the impact of education, training, and employment on life choices (E).
* A good knowledge of housing options and homelessness prevention approaches (D).
* Understanding of legislation pertaining to homelessness, temporary accommodation and offers of accommodation (D).
* Awareness of landlord and tenant legislation (D).
* An awareness of Welfare Benefits, particularly Housing Benefits/ Universal Credit (E).
* An awareness of occasions that require liaison with other public services (e.g., child protection, domestic violence) (D).
* An understanding of public policy issues affecting temporary accommodation, homelessness prevention and social housing (D).
* Knowledge of Landlord and Tenant legislation and best practice (D).
* A sound knowledge of homelessness legislation and best practice supported by practical experience (D).
* Knowledge of health and safety ratings, HMO licensing and other disrepair issues (D).
