This is an exciting opportunity for a Specialist CAMHS Crisis Practitioner to join the EL CAMHS Crisis service. We are seeking a practitioners to join our service who is passionate about providing high-quality mental care with children, young people and their families at times of crisis.

We deliver 24/7 coordinated care to children and young people and their families in mental health crisis across City & Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham. Our service can be accessed by young people attending hospital Emergency Departments and agreed community locations. The service provides additional support via the existing All Age Crisis line.

Main duties of the job

The role primarily entails providing crisis assessments and brief interventions to children, young people and their families referred to the service. Additionally the role involves providing specialist advice, consultation and training to professionals to ensure both the physical and psychological wellbeing of the service users.

The post-holder will be required to work a shift pattern which is detailed below and we welcome applications from those who are able to commit to working all shifts required by the service.

Shifts are across 7 days a week and rostered on full time working hours:

- Long day (09:00-21:00 responding to young people presenting in mental health crisis at Homerton, Royal London or Newham University Hospital AND 12:00-00:00 responding to contacts via the All Age Crisis lines)

- Night (20:45-09:15 responding to young people presenting in mental health crisis at Homerton, Royal London or Newham University Hospital, involves lone working from EL CAMHS Crisis)

- Twilight (17:00-23:00, this is an additional shift the team are piloting to provide additional support to young people presenting during the night shift).

Job responsibilities

This post holder will have a hospital and home borough from which to develop close working relationships and they will also need to provide cover to other hospitals/borough when needed. The post holder will work shifts to cover the service hours. The role primarily entails providing crisis assessments and brief interventions to children, young people and their families referred to the service. Additionally the role involves providing specialist advice, consultation and training to professionals to ensure both the physical and psychological wellbeing of the service users.

Person Specification

Education, Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualification in appropriate mental health Qualifications/ Application Training And profession such as Nursing, Systemic training in relevant form Qualification Psychotherapy, Clinical/Educational specialist skills e.g. Psychology, Child Psychotherapy, systemic therapies, Occupational Therapy, Social Work
  • Registration with relevant UK governing body.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families with complex mental mental needs, including vulnerable young people who present with high risk behaviours.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of CAMHS problems
  • Experience of care planning
  • Experience of working in a culturally diverse Inner city area
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working in or liaising closely with multi-agency teams working with young people
  • Experience in crisis work
  • Experience in the use of CAMHS clinical outcomes

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Evidence of well developed clinical skills and abilities in CAMHS, including mental health form and assessments and therapeutic interventions
  • Skilled in emergency and crisis assessments
  • Skilled in providing brief therapeutic intervnetions and psychoeducation Able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • The ability to maintain and represent a CAMHS
  • Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and ability to hold stress of others
  • Able to manage own time and caseload, prioritising assessments and treatment in non mental health settings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Evidence of ability to lead, support and influence others
  • Able to work effectively across organisational boundaries.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of CAMHS issues including assessment and interventions
  • An awareness of different research methods
  • Knowledge of specific inner city issues which impact on care delivery
  • Awareness of current national guidelines and polices in the field of CAMHS
  • Knowledge of The Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and associated legislation
  • A working knowledge of Child Protection Guidelines
