Payroll Manager

Location: Preston (Hybrid Working)

Salary: c £35,000 per annum

Your key focus is to provide a professional and responsive in-house payroll service to both internal and external customers. Reporting to the Finance Director, this is an exciting opportunity to join a business during a time of change and growth.

The Role
  • Undertake day-to-day payroll activity to ensure practical knowledge and smooth running of the service, enabling provision of cover on all payrolls.
  • Ensure objectives and workload are communicated within the wider finance team and HR, review performance and instil a culture of continuous improvement and outstanding customer service.
  • Day-to-day management of an in-house payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and pension scheme requirements, e.g., P11Ds, auto-enrolment.
  • Authorisation, validation, and reconciliation of the payroll each week/month and management of post payroll outputs as appropriate.
  • Preparation and reconciliation of month-end payments to external agencies, such as HMRC, pensions providers, and others as appropriate.
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure that processes are secure, robust, compliant, and align and work effectively to mitigate financial risk to the business.
  • Keep up to date with relevant regulations/legislation, taking action and implementing changes where necessary.
  • Oversee and action all processes relating to expenses.
  • Develop a sound knowledge of pension schemes used by the business.
  • Support the annual bonus payments processes and associated payments resulting from this.
  • Work with the HR, Finance, and IT teams to ensure the payroll system is developed and configured to meet operational requirements, agreeing any amends and assisting with the required system testing.
  • Deliver on wider payroll projects that will expand and improve the service.
  • Manage and develop the payroll team to deliver the payroll needs of the business.
Skills and Qualifications
  • CIPP qualified or qualified by experience.
  • Proven experience of managing an internal payroll function in a fast-paced commercial business delivering an end-to-end payroll process.
  • Excellent IT literacy skills - including excellent Excel experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
