Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist - Pelvic Health (Male & Female)

Men with continence and pain issues
Young obstetric patients (under 16) with gynaecological conditions


Physiotherapy Lead for the Midlands Mesh Team , ensuring high-quality care for patients with mesh complications.
Drive service transformation through audits, monitoring and updating protocols.

You will be responsible for the development, stewardship, monitoring and evaluation of this developing service. The role is flexible with some home working and face to face duties on both campuses of NUH. Experience in both male and female incontinence is essential. Additionally you will have responsibility for providing regular updates to the therapy services manager and the therapy team. You will provide expertise and input into the strategic planning and implementation of multidisciplinary clinical guidelines, care pathways and protocols within the trust, in line with national and regional guidance within specialist areas of practice.

We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff who work together to deliver high quality care.


We are committed to continuing professional development for all our staff through a range of opportunities that include recognised training courses, involvement in service development and audit. We have close links with the University of Nottingham, and take student physiotherapists for their placements.
To provide clinical leadership within the specialist service, through consultation and joint working with all bands of staff, in the management of complex patients, this will involve review of their clinical reasoning, physiotherapy assessment and treatment plans.


To maintain and develop high standards of patients care and facilitate and implement evidence based practice by ensuring implementation of standards set in relevant national guidance, specialist clinical group guidance and specialist relevant areas. Also by ensuring staff are informed of recent developments through attendance at research based conferences, relevant network meetings and postgraduate education and training courses.


To develop local pathways of care for specialist area patients


To evaluate the effectiveness of the service through service evaluation & clinical audit in liaison with the Therapy Services Manager and relevant stakeholders.


To ensure waiting list targets are maintained by initiating and developing new ways of working (e.g. telephone consultation, opt-in appointments, SOS appointments).


To ensure high standards of clinical care on issues pertaining to specialist area, to own team and a wide range of disciplines (e.g. medical staff and the MDT) in line with the education and training strategy by:


In-service training and development programme


Presenting lectures at under and post-graduate level


To establish collaborative links with other local and national advanced practitioners and disseminate information and development.


To lead on and participate in clinical research projects that enhance patient care, evaluate service and clinical developments, at times in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.


To develop links between local physiotherapists to enable the sharing of best practice (e.g. benchmarking, Essence of Care).
Training and qualifications
oBSc Hons in Physiotherapy
oRecognised post-graduate training relevant to specialty preferably including research skills to a Master's level
oKnowledge of National, Trust and Departmental policies, procedures and guidelines

oRequire highly advanced / theoretical / practical knowledge and clinical reasoning skills for more than one area of physiotherapy
oExperience of working in a consultant clinic

oAbility to assess and manage risk in relation to patient care and working environment
Planning and organisation skills
oAbility to plan and prioritise own workload, by using planning, organisational and time management. oTo develop and evaluate the renal physiotherapy service in relation to Trust objectives and National guidelines.

oEvidence of highly developed advanced manual therapy skills
oThe ability to manipulate fine tools/ medical devices Basic keyboard skills.

oMaintain competence with in-patient respiratory for rostered weekend work
oAbility to travel between locations
