Job Description

What Are We Looking For?

Owing to continued sustainable growth, our Operations and Maintenance team is looking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join the established team in Cumbernauld. You will take on a fully supported leading role in all aspects of projects, from scoping and detailed design through to implementation, ensuring compliance with client specifications and current regulatory standards, with a strong focus on low-carbon solutions.

The O&M team deliver small to medium multi-discipline projects on the repair, replacement, design and installation of equipment and plant systems for Utility services (Water and Power), and clients within the Transport, Food & Beverage, and Oil & Gas industries throughout Scotland, including the Northern and Western Isles. You will take on a leading role in aspects of projects from scoping and detailed design right through to implementation, ensuring compliance with Client Specifications and current regulatory standards, with a strong focus low on carbon solutions.

As part of industry-leading multi-disciplined project teams, some of your key duties will include:

  • Meeting with clients to discuss specific intervention requirements.
  • Oversee design aspects of projects from inception to implantation.
  • Ensure compliance with Client specification and current regulatory standards.
  • Develop design deliverables.
  • Complete checking and approval processes.
  • Carrying out the planning and implementation of projects in association with our Delivery Management teams.
  • Take responsibility as Design Lead on allocated projects.

What Do You Need?

  • Degree/HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering Engineering
  • Knowledge of British and European design standards.
  • Proven management capability including all aspects of project development, design, construction and commissioning.
  • Preconstruction design and cost evaluation knowledge and experience.
  • The ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Mechanical design engineering experience within municipal water/wastewater is highly desirable.
  • Experience of working in a multidiscipline design team.
  • Design management experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience of working at all design stages, from optioneering/FEED through to construction support and As-Built is highly desirable.
