Do you have developing specialty skills in paediatric dysphagia experience of working in an acute hospital? Our Inpatient and Feeding Speech and Language Therapy Team are looking for an experienced SLT to join them. 0 whole time equivalent band 6 permanent position.
The team provides feeding and communication input to all 23 inpatient wards and 9 specialist outpatient feeding clinics. If you have postgraduate experience in the specialist assessment and management of both communication and swallowing difficulties in paediatrics as well as an enthusiasm for cutting-edge evidence-based practice, patient and family focused care, collaborative team working, quality improvement and innovation and digital transformation, we would very much like to hear from you. Great Ormond Street Hospital is a world-famous paediatric hospital which delivers tertiary and quaternary level care to children with complex and often low-incidence medical conditions, in partnership with local, national and international providers and families.
To provide a specialist speech and language therapy service for in-patients with feeding and communication disorders arising from a wide range of rare and unusual conditions ensuring the highest standard of clinical care.
To counsel and advise patients, parents, and caregivers regarding congenital, acute onset and chronic feeding/communication problems and their consequences, sometimes in emotive and ethical situations regarding possible treatment options, including palliative care and quality of life issues and possible long term outcomes.
To liaise regularly with the SLT line manager and use the Department's established supervision systems regarding service provision and more complex clinical case management.
To participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate speech and language therapy clinical training, and the teaching and training of other staff of different disciplines, in consultation with the Team Leader/Clinical Expert and Head of Speech and Language Therapy.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent
Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Health Professions Council license to practice
Advanced level dysphagia training
Training in clinical and student supervision
Accredited postgraduate courses in feeding difficulties at masters equivalent level
SLT Clinical Master's Degree
Experience in student clinical supervision
Experience in clinical supervision procedures
Experience of using informal and formal speech and language assessment and feeding techniques and tools for children across a range of age groups.
Assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of neonates and older children presenting with communication and/or feeding difficulties.
Evidence of providing SLT interventions for feeding and communication through a number of formats and experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
Principles of assessment and management of dysphagia in paediatrics.
Skills in communicating outcomes of assessment and management plans to relevant internal and external professionals e.g. paediatricians, schools, speech and language therapists, play workers.
Demonstrable specialist skills in the management of feeding and communication problems related to children with complex special needs.
Principles of assessment and management of dysphagia in paediatrics.
Sound knowledge of IT packages, including use of Microsoft Office software.
Formal presentation skills training.
