An excellent opportunity has arisen to come and be a part of our dynamic Speech & Language service at South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

South London & Maudsley Trust provides the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK. We serve a local population of 1.3 million people in south London, as well as specialist services for children and adults across the UK and beyond. This is a band 6 Speech & Language Therapist placement, based at Bethlem Royal & Maudsley Hospital.

The successful applicant will provide speech and language therapy (SLT)neuropsychiatry services. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), providing specialist communication and dysphagia assessments and interventions to patients on the Lishman Unit. According to personal interest and business continuity, the post may also involve working as part of a small speech and language team, responding to referrals from other units across SLAM in the boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon relating to the assessment and management of communication and eating/swallowing difficulties presented by adults with mental health difficulties.

The post is based in the Psychological Medicine and Older Adults Directorate.

The post holder will contribute to the development of the SLT service and the provision of multi-professional training in communication, feeding and swallowing disorders in adults for the Trust.

**Responsibilities**:

- To autonomously manage a caseload of service users in the neuropsychiatry service and carrying out assessments, interventions and giving advice regarding the daily management of service users to the MDT.
- To work as part of the MDT in the management and care delivery of service users and to participate in MDT and ward reviews.
- To participate in the delivery of dysphagia and communication training to staff across the Trust.
- To identify training needs and assist in developing new resources accordingly.
- To participate in groups offered via the SLT service.
- To participate in the clinical training of SLT students.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Dysphagia qualified
- HCPC registration
- Neuro-rehabilitation experience (communication and dysphagia)
- Experience of working within an MDT
- Working with carers

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Experience of cognitive-communication difficulties
- Awareness of mental health conditions and impact these can have on communication and swallowing
- Training others

**In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of**:

- Relevant Qualifications
- Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable.
