Play a key role within the English National Opera department dedicated to learning & participation.

The English National Opera is the national opera company dedicated to one simple aim: creating extraordinary encounters with opera, on stage and beyond. In the words of its founder Lilian Baylis, it is the opera company for everyone.

ENO Engage is the Learning & Participation department of the ENO. It exists to open up new possibilities for opera in people’s lives. By turning the art form sideways, upside down and inside out, the team reinvents it as a tool for social impact and change. They do this by delivering immersive, playful programmes that surprise, inspire and connect people; creating meaningful opportunities that support wellbeing, learning and skills development.

Reporting to the ENO Engage Programme Manager, you will be coordinating a range of learning and participation projects, working closely with all members of the ENO Engage team and staff in other departments of the Company, as well as people from across the sector. These will include freelance artists, partner organisations, school groups, and community groups.

In this role, you will be working across different programme strands. These could include School, Community and Creative Health programmes in London or/and in Greater Manchester. You will coordinate a range of programmes such as Finish This, ENO Breathe, Discover Opera Days, Relaxed Performances, Schools & Community Memberships. The specific areas of work will be defined with you and the rest of the Engage team. You can find out more about these projects on the ENO's website .

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Programme Managers to design and deliver learning, participation and creative health projects, ensuring all activity is designed to meet the project brief, budget and objectives
  • Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of individuals including partner organisations, schools, community groups, health partners, artists, speakers and internal departments
  • Work to improve ENO Engage systems and ways of working, including thinking about how Equality, Diversity and Inclusion can be better embedded in everything we do
  • Carry out monitoring, evaluation, and data gathering to support funding requirements and growth of projects
  • Manage project budgets under the supervision of Programme Managers, ensuring budgets are updated accurately and effectively monitoring income and expenditure
  • Schedule and book freelance staff, prepare and process contracts as necessary
  • Arrange logistics for the smooth running of programmes, events and team planning. This could include making room bookings, creating welcome packs, communicating with other ENO departments about technical or logistical needs, ordering materials and equipment, coordinating catering, and arranging travel and accommodation
  • Amplify and share the work of ENO Engage by editing/updating ENO Engage web pages, developing internal communications and producing newsletters & mailing lists for participants
  • Oversee the work of Freelance Coordinators and/or Volunteers, occasionally leading group meetings
  • Observe, attend and take part in sessions, workshops and events, immersing yourself in the work, getting to know the communities/groups, and communicating any feedback to Programme Coordinators and Managers
  • Support on the design, programming and delivery of the Engage Membership Schemes for Communities and Schools
  • Coordinate Dress Rehearsal and ticket night offers, promoting these to schools and community groups, communicating with box office, and being present at performances to support group visits
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of all office systems to ensure smooth running of the department.

What are we looking for

  • Experience of or an interest in working in the arts and social change sectors
  • Experience of or a willingness to work in a range of community and educational contexts
  • Experience of coordinating projects, managing budgets and running monitoring & evaluation
  • A team player who enjoys collaborating with others
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
