Hounslow Greater London, United Kingdom British Airways Full time

A career without limits

As the nation's flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It's something we've been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world's first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It's the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you're inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.

The role:

A skilled Senior Technical Engineer is required to become part of the Avionics & Flight Data team. This is a dynamic role in a design and operational support area where team working is encouraged. As a Senior Technical Engineer, you will use your experience to coach and mentor team members and support the development of the team. Current projects include: aircraft system updates to improve aircraft data connectivity and ground system software development to deliver insights to engineers; avionic upgrades to enhance safety and reliability. Often operational support will take precedence, so an agile work attitude is required. The design work includes assessing International and UK regulations which could result in raising a business case and cross fleet embodiment in a short time. Review of operational aircraft data will be expected to complete root cause analysis of aircraft events. Sound Engineering judgement is expected as standard whilst interfacing at all levels in BA Engineering and within other BA departments. Contact with IAG Opco's, Airframers, Regulators, Vendors and other airlines is part of the role which may result in work travel. Training will be provided but will be driven by the Engineer.

This is a management grade role with the potential for career development in a broad range of leadership & management roles across the company.

What you'll bring to British Airways:

  • Problem solving, analytical & technical decision making
  • Strong team player, highly collaborative and emotionally intelligent
  • Project management, organisation & prioritisation
  • Report and business case writing with high degree of commercial awareness
  • Customer focused with effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated showing initiative in a changing environment
  • Experience of effective supplier management
  • IT support systems experience highly desirable
Your experience:

  • Ability to hold CAA / EASA approvals or BA company approvals (e.g. Part-21J Part-145 & Part-M) (Essential)
  • HNC / HND or equivalent in an Aerospace Engineering or related subject (Essential)
  • Recognised Aircraft Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience (Essential)
  • Degree in an Aerospace Engineering subject (Desirable)
  • EASA pt66 Licence (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of safety and quality management systems (Essential)
What we offer:

We believe that all the people who work with us should feel valued for the part they play. It's one of the reasons our rewards go far beyond a competitive salary.

From the day you join us, you'll get access to brilliant staff travel benefits including unlimited basic and premium standby tickets on British Airways flights. You'll also receive up to 30 discounted 'Hotline' airfares per year for yourself, friends, and family.

At British airways you'll have the chance to take on new challenges and move forward in a way that feels right for you. We encourage all those who work for us to consider opportunities right across our business to help you develop and progress.

We never stand still, and we don't expect our people to either.
