MHSOP is an established Care Unit within the Trust and psychology is highly valued within this. In parallel, the Care Unit is reviewing the provision of psychologically informed care, staff training to support this work and embedding new roles to facilitate the delivery of psychological interventions at different levels. There is a strong and developing network of Clinical, Counselling, Forensic and other Applied Psychologists across the Trust, facilitated by an Associate Director for Psychological Professions. We have excellent relationships with local professional training courses and academic institutions, which also provides further research, supervision and teaching opportunities. In addition, the MHSOP Care Unit promotes the importance of professional development. We have recently been able to provide access to post-qualification specialist training, alongside regular established CPD.

The CMHTs provide community based assessment and interventions for older people with a variety of mental health needs and people with a diagnosis of dementia. They also have links with the Memory Assessment Service (MAS), Young Onset Dementia team (YOD), Dementia Outreach Service (DOS) and the Intensive Home Treatment Teams (IHTT).
