About the Role:

At Collinson, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the Director of Software Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing our people-centric culture while managing a global team of engineering professionals across various levels and disciplines. This role is not just about leading engineering projects; it’s about being a strategic visionary focused on future tech stack innovations and fostering a collaborative environment.

You will be the bridge between our product and engineering teams, ensuring seamless communication and alignment. Your strategic insight will guide the development of our tech stack and drive the adoption of innovative technologies to maximize productivity and support our company’s growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee front-end and back-end development teams and their projects
  • Define all aspects of development from appropriate technology and workflow to coding standards
  • Ensure compliance with security regulations
  • Design strategies for future development projects based on the company’s overall objectives and resources
  • Hire engineers and coordinate their onboarding and training
  • Drive the adoption and integration of innovative technologies to enhance engineering processes and product development
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders for new integrations and tools
  • Review and update policies relevant to internal systems and equipment
  • Collaborate with other professionals to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new features or applications
  • Use tools and methodologies to create representations for functions and user interface of desired product
  • Develop high-level product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility
  • Communicate successfully all concepts and guidelines to development team
  • Oversee progress of development team to ensure consistency with initial design
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers. Manage appraisals for most senior engineers including setting clear measurable objectives.
  • Drive adoption of continuous integration and automation, improving engineering experience, speed to market and speed of innovation
  • Ensure software meets all requirements of quality, security, modifiability, extensibility etc.
  • Ensure operation of key platform components, both directly and indirectly
  • Ensure all spend is within budget constraints and optimise spend to get the best return on investment

What We’re Looking For:

  • Work experience as an Engineering Director or in a similar senior-level position within an engineering department
  • Extensive experience with cloud technologies and modern human-computer interfaces
  • Hands-on experience in back-end and front-end development and modern languages
  • Good understanding of agile methodologies
  • Leadership abilities with a strategic mind
  • Proven experience as software architect/design engineer
  • Experience in software development and coding in various languages
  • Experience in developing and scaling platforms which evolve to meet business needs and drive innovation
  • Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture, including design patterns
  • Experience in software quality assurance and continuous integration implementation
  • A technical mindset with great attention to detail
  • High quality organizational and leadership skills
  • Experienced in stakeholder management and simplifying complex technology details into clear, business-wide updates
  • An inspiring leader to our engineering team, capable of driving both growth and professional development in others
